Prince George, B.C.  The YMCA on Massey Drive in Prince George was evacuated  this morning following a minor explosion in a mechanical room.

Shortly after 10 this morning, sixteen firefighters  from three Prince George Fire Rescue halls responded to the call at the Y about an explosion.

When they arrived, crews found the building being evacuated with no signs of a fire.

Once inside the building, fire crews found that a small explosion had happened  in the maintenance room.  One of the  sprinkler heads  had been activated.

There was no fire and no injuries to any occupants or firefighters. There is no estimate of dollar loss at this time.

This incident is still under investigation and not suspicious in nature.

According to the YMCA, the  explosion was caused by a butane canister in the maintenance area.   The YMCA hopes  to reopen  it’s doors to the public  by 3 this afternoon.
