Prince George, B.C. – Those looking to get rid of their Christmas trees can do so at the CN Centre parking lot this weekend.

The annual event is put on by the Prince George Central Lion’s Club and is for a good cause.

“Last year we had 40 to 45 trees. It’s all by donation so basically if people want to drop off their trees they can donate some money and it will be used towards eyeglasses, hearing aids for the elderly and for the cadets,” says secretary Tony Herba.

He says the pickup runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and notes the City of Prince George will shred (real trees, not artificial) the trees on Monday.

“It’s basically a good fundraiser for the Lions Club. We like to get some funds we can donate back to the city and make sure people get help.”

And Herba says the frigid temperatures is unlikely to deter donations this weekend.

“It was colder last year. The cadets helped out and they made forts in the trees just to keep warm.”
