Burger King Donates $1,000 for At-Risk Youth
Prince George, B.C. – Burger King is helping take a bite out of crime.
This after they presented a $1,000 cheque to Community Policing today for the agency’s at-risk-youth program.
“It feels good. Something, anything to help our community is always good,” says Deepak Kumar, manager of the restaurant’s Prince George location.
“It’s about community. They (kids) come here, they spend their money here.”
The donation was the result of a fundraiser Burger King held last November.
At the time, Kumar decided to lend a hand after noticing some of his own young staff members struggling with alcohol and drug dependency.
“I’ve seen really good kids get off to a promising start and then two or three months later they get into bad habits like doing drugs. Then you find out they’re standing on some street lying somewhere. Why are our kids turning into drug addicts? It’s really hard to see.”
Community Policing coordinator Linda Parker says the money will be put to good use.
“We’d like to earmark it specifically for our youth-at-risk teams since Mr. Kumar is passionate about youth. I think it’s very useful because it might provide us with some giveaways or incentives that our youth-at-risk team may be able to use in their duties.”
Comments
From one taxpayer and concerned citizen, Thank you Mr. Kumar. And if I’m hankering for fast food once in a while, I’ll visit you.
This would be a better story if the 1,000.00 came out of the profit instead of a fundraiser where customers donated the money. But still good that the thought was there.
red2b, money did not come from customer donations. Excerpt from 250 News Nov. 29th article.
“RCMP’s Community Policing Section, says Kumar’s enthusiasm was welcomed. As a result she says “this weekend one dollar from every meal sold at the Prince George Burger King location will go to the Two Rivers Crime Prevention Society supporting Community Policing Crime Prevention programs and services.”
Thanks, that’s good to hear. I thought that maybe it was one of those “add on” when you pay something like MS at A&W. Good for Mr Kumar
