Friday Free For All – Jan. 23

Thursday, January 22, 2015 @ 11:59 PM

The week is coming to a close and that can only mean one thing.   It’s time for the Friday Free For All.

You  pick the topic,  but please,  we ask that you obey the three simple rules:

  • Keep it clean
  • Keep it legal
  • No Bullying

L E T   ‘E R   R I P  !!!

Comments

Can we please get rid of the recycling bins? I’d rather see a smaller version of our garbage cart for recycling use. Current bins are useless (too small, no lids to contain everything, and blows all over the neighborhood).

I’d have to agree on that one!
Good morning everyone! I hope the weekend is full of fun and relaxation for everyone. Make it a safe one.

When did 250 News change the language they use in their headlines? The English spelling rules I grew up with reserved capitalization for proper names the first word in a sentence, not every word. Maybe this is a form of “American English”? It can be confusing sometimes. To each his own, but I for one would prefer to maintain the Canadian version whenever posible.

Damn snowplows
Damn pot-holes
Damn Mayor
Damn Premier

There. I feel better. Have a fantastic Friday everyone.

Damn drivers that blind you with their high beams before they dim them.

I was stopped at a red light at the bottom of Peden hill the other day and watched as the alleged professional driver from JV Logging blew past me through the red light. Dude must have been going 80; lucky no one was killed. Guess he needed the speed to get up the hill.

Capitalization in headlines and titles has always been different from capitalization in ordinary sentences.

The other night I was coming up the Hart, visibility poor, hard to tell one lane from the other or where the edge of the road was, and came awfully close to a man walking at the edge of the road, facing away from traffic, in dark clothes. When will pedestrians learn to face traffic and wear clothing that makes them visible?

I agree with you javamama. I see in in other place in the states they have recycling cans the same as our large garbage cans and a that is picked up and dumped the same as garbage way faster.

wHo caRes as LonG as thE Goal tO coMMunicate iS mEt.

Anyone know why the City is hacking down trees in the pinewood neighbourhood?

Have a great weekend everyone! Does anyone know why that large area of trees was cut down at the top of University Way?

Good one, eye Spy! and I like No Way’s reply – except that random capitalisation seems to make communication more difficult. My beef with Eye Spy is that while complaining (rightly in my opinion) about American English creeping in everywhere, he has used it himself in the spelling of capitalisation – he used a Z instead of an s. English english does not use z in the …..isation words. But wouldn’t you know it, the spell check is telling me that capitalisation is spelled wrong!! Ho hum – Happy Friday Everyone.

I had an incident last night coming up the hill from the roundabout to merge with 97North traffic. A worker ON A BICYCLE coming DOWN the hill (against traffic) in his dark clothes. Granted, he did have a hard hat on his head. Obviously, going to work somewhere like Brink. If that was YOU dude, you can SO CLOSE!!! Damn, he scared me! Duh! SUV versus bicycle, wouldn’t have been pretty.

Came! not can. sure wish there was edit on this site! typo’s r us!

Spellcheck indicates that councillor is spelled wrong but accepts councilor which is the American spelling. Same thing for colour as opposed to color,.

My challenge is with people walking across the road, or down the road, wearing dark clothing at night. Our roads are black this time of year, we can’t see you. The worst is when they walk across the road.

Last week, I was wondering what this black thing on the road was. I slowed because something was there, but it was more instinct than that I saw them. It was someone in a long black coat running across the road. Seriously??

Please wear reflective clothing if you are walking on a dark road, or at least have a flash light. Enough people get hit in the daytime with good visibility.

The Pulp Mill Rd area is the worst.

250news has been doing headlines like that for a long, long time. I just looked at some from 2008 and they were like that.

Re: Communication; If your spelling and grammar looks like it was written by a fourth grader, that’s where I assume your intelligence level is.

Good morning to all my friends in George and others. It a balmy day in a Abby at 11c some rain but it looks great. Now lets talk about last Friday since there are some that just cant let it go that there are many different approaches to our live by different people. Fortunately we aren’t all of the same mind. MY first response is to BCGrog who’s ideas are mind boggling

Or, stay there, feel free to drop by but quit beating down on our town. And stop “rubbing it in our face” that you moved to Abbotsford because, well, no one cares. Me, I pity your choice.

BCGrog, I guess you don’t follow the posts on this site I sat back a number of weeks and said nothing and read the derogatory remarks that were made on my town and myself as well. They kept referring to the shity place I lived in.

Our friends in Prince George are pleased that we have found a place that we are comfortable with. They don’t try to compare Abbotsford with Prince George they accept our choice.

There are also many that don’t understand air quality but are constantly spouting off about some thing that they know little about. In the mid 90’s Environment Canada started tacking air quality in our Province. Most confuse air quality with “Haze”. You cant see air quality, maybe in China.

This is a great place to share opinions and to have 50 or more posts about bad drivers is unreal. It gives mea a notion that most of the posts are childish and immature and as why would I be attacked because I’m trying to lighten the atmosphere. Bad drivers are every where there are drivers try to accept that fact and you’ll stop boring us with your petty attitude.

Prince George is the only place that I was involved in an accident when a driver back ended me at Ospika and 15the Ave. I have been driving for over 50 years and I still drive into Vancouver without a hitch . Just look ahead, watch your mirrors and the bad drivers will eventually meet there Waterloo.

Talking about fishing Lintz lake was my favourite. How many of you ardent fishermen know where it is? I hadn’t fished for a number of years before I left PG but I remembered the Junior Fish and Game club and donated all my rods, reels, flies and tying equipment to them.

And remember that I will not stop posting. I have done so since the inception of 250. I lived in PG for 30 years and its probably the only place that I can read on what’s happening in the City.

So keep cool see you next Friday
Cheers

Drivers, hate them all, that’s why I leave them in the bag a tee off with my 3 wood ;)

Have a great weekend everyone

About air quality, haze.

The capitalization in the title is correct, it is called title case. If you are in MS Word, one of the case states is title case, which is the first letter of the major words, but not the minor words such as: of, the, to, unless it is the first word in the phrase. In MS Word try to select a range of words and press shift+f3. This will cycle through the case states.

The spell check on your computer comes from two (2) places, your individual computer which defaults to the American dictionary, but you can add the Canadian or British dictionary if you wish. The other dictionary may come from the site itself, but that also will be the American dictionary.

The British derived Canadian spelling of that round rubber thing a vehicle rolls on is tyre.

Now before ya’ll flame me, I encourage any to verify for themselves before shooting from the hip.

Hey, I know where Lintz Lake is! Fished it many times. Crystal clear water and very clean fish. I preferred to fish Lakes like Stuart, Francois, Quesnel, etc. There are lots of great fishing spots around PG, but the same could be said for the entire Province. PG doesn’t have a monopoly on good fishing, it’s actually probably not as good as some other areas in the Province. It’s good though, don’t get me wrong. I had some great trips fly fishing for grayling around PG. There are no grayling near Ottawa, but the bass and musky make up for up it.

Is it not just wonderful the Feds have lowered the value of the Cdn dollar to 81 cents in relation to the US dollar. It is not really just a ploy by the Feds and the provinces to increase tax dollars income. As our imported goods become more expensive the prices will rise and so will the amount of tax dollars the consumer pays on the goods purchased.

One more time Harper and crew stick it to the average working Canadian.

Resident – average driver is saving $150.00 a month on fuel, divide by 12% and prices would have to increase by $1,250.00 a month for government to collect that amount in additional sales tax, before you would be break even. Highly unlikely drop in C$ will cause monthly taxable expenses to go up $1,250.00. Remember, food is sales tax exempt, and it might offset because of lower transportation costs. Highly doubtful this is a government conspiracy to increase taxes, especially when it’s driven by the Saudi’s dropping the price of oil, which even Harper can’t make happen.

@Resient: Sorry to break it to you, it is the price of oil that has lowered the value of the Canadian dollar to 0.81 US.

First attempt to insult this Friday from JB: “If your spelling and grammar looks like it was written by a fourth grader, that’s where I assume your intelligence level is.”

Now I duck, because I have just made myself a target. But I’m not the least bit worried!

Have s great weekend, everyone!

New Slogan – Keep Right Unless you Want to Crash. Travelling on Chief Lake toward town when oncoming yellow empty logging truck trailer plate 7173 2D decided to cross center line and take up 3/4 of my lane. Fortunately YRB cleared shoulder so I was able to keep right long enough for him to finish his text message – or whatever it was that was so important, for him to pull back before I had to ditch my car, and become another opinion 250 story of idiot who drives off road for no reason.

I did go after him to collect as much information as possible as I take offense to anyone attempting to kill me -whether they mean to or not – and have come to accept that the RCMP and CVSE are essentially useless outside of city limits.

The constable I talked to later I had to describe in great detail where Chief Lake Road is because in her words (I don’t get to the rural areas much) – i.e., if someone was breaking into your home, she’d need Google Maps to find it. Best they can do, is give the owner of the trailer a call and ask him to ask his driver to behave – unless of course he’s an owner/operator, then he just gives himself a good talking to.

The logging trucks are again picking up speed and crossing centre lines on curves on there way out there, and I suspect once again the good people of Nukko Lake are going to have to set up a safety information checkpoint by the school, in order to get some sort of assistance from law enforcement, and some sort of compliance from the truck drivers.

I have great respect for truckers, I realize they are at work, and I do try to make their job as easy as possible, except when they try to kill me. But at the same time, getting one more load in at the end of the day, makes you a few bucks, but should you really be endangering lives to do it?

Anyone else have issues with the blinding blue white head lights that are becoming more common? I for one have great difficulty seeing past these lights blinding me to the road ahead. Then there are those that add into the mix their auxiliary lights. Do they suffer from locker room envy?

@PrinceGeorge, I realize I am always in your crosshairs, but please try to focus on someone else this Friday.

Seamut you are correct. The new lights are to much. They may help the driver see better, but blinding oncoming drivers seems to diminish the safety aspect. I am sure either Bmw or Mercedes are working on something to fix this issue ( between these two companies they have come up with over 90% of all improvements to vehicles ) the rest follow in their footsteps. So,the sooner the better. As for the people making up for, short comings in other areas having the light bars, etc isn’t cool, it’s unsafe, should be made illegal on road legal vehicles.

I don’t suppose you caught the “VIN” number above his license plate? It would have initials designating the company and a vehicle specific number. If you did, you can report him to BC Forest Safe and they’ll promptly ignore you but, if you also report him to the company he contracts for, chances are they’ll do something.

Seamut. I agree. The blinding white headlights are a pain. Seems like people have lost the ability to think what their actions have on other people.

On another note::: Anyone notice the Advance of the Potholes??? They seem to be popping up all over the place.

With the warm weather, we will be able to show off to the world our great collection of potholes, and terrible roads. Let the games begin.

It’s the bright auxiliary that come as standard equipment and used when there are no visibility issues I have an issue with. Seems to be no standard. My self I have 600 watts of moose detection on my truck for the open highway and backroads. Saved my head more than once and responsible on how I use them.

Part of the problem with headlights (bright or otherwise) is that they are often not aimed properly.

My beef (pet peeve) with new cars is all the expensive crap they put in them these days to compensate for lazy and incompetent drivers snd bad driving habits. ‘Following too close’ indicators and braking systems, ‘blind spot’ indicators, lane drift alarms, backup cameras, and self parallel parking systems just to name a few.

Thanks axman – but barely could make out the plate number – lots of dirt on the back. But it’s okay, he kills me, my wife is rich, I get 30 virgins – what is there to complain about.

Agree on the bright lights especially the light bars. My friend solved the problem, he has the biggest and baddest light bar out there, and if you don’t dim yours, he leaves his on. Sad that we’re all resorting to forms of vigilante behavior. Explain to me what taxes are for again. Isn’t something about government who makes laws for benefit of the people and employee police and courts to enforce those laws.

Interesting thought – but if the police don’t protect us, I wonder if it would be seen as a valid defense – I protected myself because they won’t/can’t. You know, like tossed a handful of ball bearings out your sun roof to the car tailgating behind you. I’m truly not advocating this, but if people get frustrated enough, they do stupid stuff, and of course in that scenario, not only might you kill the tailgater, but someone innocent in the car as well.

ski51: “Interesting thought – but if the police don’t protect us, I wonder if it would be seen as a valid defense – I protected myself because they won’t/can’t. ”

In the police’s defense, they can’t do much unless you have the incident on video. It quickly becomes an ‘I said/You said’ kind of scenario. There are vindictive people who call companies and report false incidents because they don’t like the company.

What I liked about Linz was its clear water and there are not that many in the PG area. Another clear lake was Opatcho where I caught some nice rainbow. I had a 12 foot car toper that worked great for fly fishing. It was very light to load

I tried some of the brown lakes but they didn’t turn me . Even the fish had a brown ting. But hey the Caribou was the place for fly fishing and old Jack Shaw from Kamloops knew them all.

Not that many big mouth bass this am . Wonder if I caught them all.
Cheers

ski51, your friend solved his problem by being a bigger moron with a light bar.. that solves nothing, it actually compounds the problem.. just makes him look like a complete idiot.

Has no one noticed the Premier inviting all the recently laid off oil patch workers to “Come home to BC!”
Currently we have a provincial Unemployed rate of 5.4% and our Caribou region is 4.3%, prince George at 4.2%.
Why would we want more unemployed?

CWG almost here and record number of awesome pot holes again.

Wonder how those lane drift detectors work on roads with no visible lines the way ours are most of the year. With all these detectors going off people will just tend to ignore them.

Wonder if speed in low visibility will increase with people depending on their collision sensors.

I read where Abby and Mission are the gang capitals of Canada. Bibles and gangs, quite a mixture.

The ice is supposed to cover up the potholes. Darned ice isn’t doing its job.

“My beef (pet peeve) with new cars is all the expensive crap they put in them these days to compensate for lazy and incompetent drivers snd bad driving habits. ‘Following too close’ indicators and braking systems, ‘blind spot’ indicators, lane drift alarms, backup cameras, and self parallel parking systems just to name a few.”

Thought all those new features would make you fell safe J.B. Not all of us hear harps playing when we open our eyes in the morning.

Listened to Clark telling all the workers the liberals have driven away to come home to work.. Bring home all your skills back, she doesn’t mention that all of her cuts to education for trades have put us in this situation. Or the high taxes/fees that scared ppl away have only increased.. She just doesnt get it.

Mav: “Thought all those new features would make you fell safe J.B. Not all of us hear harps playing when we open our eyes in the morning.”

Umm… what?

Anyway, just a reminder to all to always drive to the conditions.

I like all the chatter about Transportation in BC and the so called improvements. Hah I haven’t seen any life safety improvements anywhere, no shoulder markers or knoll posts with reflectors, no lane reflectors, piss poor paint for lines and fog lines that seem to wash away in the rain. Now I don’t know who’s to blame for this, the maintenance companies cutting corners and not replacing this stuff, or the Ministry of Transport not staying on top of these safety issues.

Traveling South, sure four lanes are nice, but where the road goes dark those reflectors, markings and knoll posts really help when you can’t see 12 feet in front of you (regardless of the weather). Keep in mind I am just talking about the hwy, I won’t get started with the inbred pot hole monster (axle killer) lurking in Prince George currently.

“…she doesn’t mention that all of her cuts to education for trades have put us in this situation.”

Yes, of course. It’s all the government’s fault. The high paying jobs in the oil patch had absolutely nothing to do with the lack of skilled tradespeople in this province.

And having one of the lowest personal income tax rates in the country also did a lot to drive everybody away.

Prof: “piss poor paint for lines and fog lines that seem to wash away in the rain. ”

I agree. I heard somewhere that the old oil based paint they used to use was very durable but wasn’t ‘environmentally friendly’ so they switched to an eco-friendly paint which doesn’t last a year. Can anyone confirm?

Downtown Prince George is the worst for driving on a dark rainy night. Too many zombies walking around without reflective clothing at night.

Mav, Huh, must be grade 5 grammar. you talk about intelligence JohnnyBelt yikes…Mav ?

Axman, tradesmen make over $6500 a year at the minimum, and bc tax rate is the third highest in the country for that rate.. Ooops.

I still have issues with guide outfitters getting between 20% and 40% of the game allocations in BC, while in most north american jurisdictions they get 5% to 10%.

Now the government wants to give them 25% of the moose tags in our area, while BC resident hunters go without. What is wrong with that picture? Why should we have to stand aside so a wealthy trophy hunter can use their services?

The fact is that our moose populations around Prince George have plummeted and the seasons will be shortened or shut down altogether. Already the calf moose season has been shut down in most of our region. The next step will be ALL moose will be on LEH,good luck on being a moose hunter around Prince George when that happens.

In the last 35 years since the inception of the limited entry hunting model of game management I have drawn LEH bull moose tags 2 times, while the outfitters get bull moose allocations year after year after year. It’s about time the resident hunters of this province started to get a fair shake.

$65,000 that is :)

Axman, tradesmen make over $6500 a year at the minimum, and bc tax rate is the third highest in the country for that rate.. Ooops.

Nonsense.

So why are there film critics? I don’t care what they think of a movie, I make my own choices which to go to or which to rent online. Their opinion matters to no one but themselves, yet they waste time during the news to tell us what they thought of a movie. In my many years of movie going I have yet to go to a movie based on a film critics recommendation.

Professional have you ever driven the north south island highway. That is how to build a road. The rest of BC’s highways are a joke compared to it.

Surprisingly enough, there are people out there who can’t make decisions on their own when it comes to seeing a movie. I don’t understand it either but such is life.

Seamut : Actually I am from the Island and I know the to which you speak. Yeah that’s impressive, pity is most of BC’s roads were looked after back, way back in the day.

Axman, tradesmen make over $6500 a year at the minimum, and bc tax rate is the third highest in the country for that rate.. Ooops.

===============================

Actually, if you made $65,000 in 2014, living in BC would result in the lowest tax bill in the country amongst the provinces. The same would hold true for an income of $75,000, $85,000, $95,000 and even $100,000.

BC is a very low tax jurisdiction in Canada, in some cases it’s thousands of dollars less than other provinces for the income levels I stated. It’s not until you make about $130,000 a year where Alberta starts to have a lower personal income tax load.

It’s not just about the rates, you have to look at how the brackets work. They aren’t all the same.

Yes Retired 02, I’ve caught some nice fish out of Opatcho as well. It was always a tough lake to fish and while the catch rate wasn’t usually high, when you got into a fish it was usually a good one.

That chunk of the province from Williams Lake down to Kamloops is possibly one of the best places in the world when it comes to still water fly fishing. The lakes are generally far more productive that the ones around PG. The seclusion and scenery outside of PG could certainly make up for allot, especially on the bigger lakes like Stuart, Trembluer, Takla, etc.

I’ll have to get back one year and spend a week or two in some of my old stomping grounds.

What kind of tradesman is only making $65000 a year?
I haven’t seen one with a T4 for less than $100K in several years, and in my business I see a lot of them.
As for the contention that BC has the third highest rate of personal income taxes in Canada….that is pure bovine excrement..in fact BC has the fourth lowest, only the Yukon, Nunavut, and NW Territories have a lower rate and that is for obvious reasons. So once again P val you are talking out both sides of your head at the same time with out doing any real research.
One more thing, if you ask anyone that has been involved in trades here in BC for any length of time they will tell you that by far the biggest exodus of skilled labour to Alberta from BC came during that wonderful decade of NDP rule…AKA the 90s.
Time to get those NDP lenses cleaned so that you can actually see what is going on around you and not just spout off the same socialist rhetoric over and over !
By the way if you are actually interested in seeing the truth, the complete tax rate table is available on the CRA website!

Thanks for the clarity NMG , I just took the numbers off government of Canada’s website for 2015.

Income tax isn’t everything…BC also has all those hidden taxes, like Carbon Tax. And provincially controlled monopolies, like ICBC and Hydro that just charge us what ever they feel like.

I guess retired ignored the haze and gang banger info about his utopia.

Ok Jim, let’s compare…I have a brother in Calgary that has a similar vehicle to mine. His PRIVATE auto insurance is about 3.5% cheaper than mine in BC through ICBC. As for Hydro…by comparison to what he pays in Calgary for electricity (Gas and Coal generated) we in BC get a bargain. My monthly installment is $87 his is $148. That is a $720 difference per year.
It is a well known fact that the overall cost of living is much lower in BC than it is in Alberta!

When taxes etc. are considered, we must not forget the ever popular ‘user fees’ which were first introduced by that famous right leaning politician Glen Clark. I still remember that he promised “no tax increases” and then promptly introduced ‘user fees. Remember $5.00 driver’s licences, now user ‘up to $75.00 and so on. Once Glen left, other politicians and business organizations recognized what a good scam he started so we now have baggage fees, rainwater taxes etc. I can’t wait for some enterprising person to figure out a way to tax us for exhaling air by making the inhaling free but ‘socking it to us’ to exhale. Perhaps this is something that Sherry and Beth can get working on. :)

Living costs are definitely another consideration and it can be very tough to make an apples to apples comparison.

I live in Ottawa now and property taxes are quite a bit higher than what we paid in PG. My house here is assessed at a higher value mind you, but they would still be quite a bit higher for the same assessed value. Better services here though, so that has to be factored in.

Auto insurance here is WAY cheaper than BC for us. My wife and I insure both of our vehicles for just a bit more than what I paid to insure my truck in BC. Hydro and gas I’d say is roughly equivalent, at least not enough of a difference that it’s really noticeable. Food is cheaper here than PG for sure, but income taxes are higher. Medical premiums are also more.

If I were to factor everything in, I’d say that living here is definitely more expensive than living in PG, but not prohibitively so. Living here is far cheaper than living in Vancouver or the Okanagan once you factor in housing prices there.

That is just pure cost of living. Any discussion like this should also factor in quality of life and what one receives for those living costs. That discussion could go on forever, LOL!

Yes indeed! High intensity discharge, (HID) are getting really popular with log truckers. They are extremely bright on dim and we won’t even mention the nuclear powered ones they and others refuse to dim until after they blind you.

Very few are not aimed properly. The type of headlight being operating by idiots is the largest problem.

LMAO! The lowest income tax rates in the country must make up for the highest taxation on everything else consumers spend their money on I suppose?

BC = BRING CASH. A well known fact among people everywhere.

“Our friends in Prince George are pleased that we have found a place that we are comfortable with. They don’t try to compare Abbotsford with Prince George they accept our choice.”

If your PG friends don’t compare Abbotsford to Prince George why don’t you follow suit and stop the continuous comparison of the two cities and the veiled insults of the place where we make our home. People don’t give a crap what the temp is in ” Abby” and why you think anyone would care on here is beyond me. You seem to forget that this is a local page of local interest and no one gives two craps about how things are going for you in your new city. You moved to Abbotsford, we get it, no need to give weather reports and make disparaging comparisons between your old town and the new one, take a hint from your friends and accept your own choice. You do not live here anymore. WE GET IT! FFS

How well do the automatic high beam dimmers work?

“BC = BRING CASH. A well known fact among people everywhere.”

Only amongst those who are uninformed and don’t get out much in general.

So target Canada failed so it will cost about 56 million to pay the 17,600 employees, but the ceo of Canada target will get about 61 million for running a failing business. How is that even legal ?

Seamutt those bright blue white headlights, I agree they are a pain and should be illegal. They actually hurt the eyes like getting poked in the eye. I bought some antiglare glasses just because of those lights. If they get the high beam then I think all is fair….

Aboriginal tourism.. Wtf is that..

In 2003 in the Okanagan 197 mature moose tags were given to residents

In 2007 in the Okanagan 191 mature moose tags were given to residents

in 2014 in the Okanagan 122 mature moose tags were given to residents

this comes to a 38% drop in resident opportunity

Now they want to take away more resident opportunity

That is a drop of 75 animals in one region in one species. That is why it is time to stop this give away to non residents

PG Firefighters reached an agreement with the City. They were without a contract since 2010. The contract provides for increases working out to 15.9% over four years and nine months. Starting in April 2010 and ending on Jan. 1/15. There was also a 1/2% signing bonus.

So that’s settled and we can now begin to negotiate a new five year contract.

Here is an interesting number you can chew on.

With the increases City finance Manager Chris Dalio said the payroll for unionized fire fighters is $16 Million in 2015.

There are 118 IAFA Local 1372 members at Prince George Fire Rescue, 11 of them dispatchers and the rest firefighters.

So $16,000,000.00 divided by 118 equals $135,593.00 per person. (roughly)
This number of course would include the cost of benefits etc;

Not bad. Perhaps we should take up the trade.

Ski51… your ball-baring comment. Interesting. I had that happen to me by a passing logging truck from Gibson in Vanderhoof a few months back. One of the black ones. Passed me, and while he was still in the other lane I seen something coming out the passenger window and then I got showered with glass when it hit my window. From the size of the hole I figured it had to be a bal-baring of some sort.

I agree Junco. He always starts with the temperature in Abbotsford. Who cares? Is that supposed to bait us into a “Gee I wish we were there!”???

Newsflash! From October to March the temperature in Abbotsford is between 8 and 12 degrees. Whoop de frickin’ doo! Stop the presses! Oh and it’s raining, drizzling, misting, or gray and cloudy. Whoot! And the lawns are still green, the asphalt is blackish gray and there is an occasional piece of litter on a sidewalk!

I prefer four distinct seasons thanks and I love -15 or -20 with blue skies and sparkling snow.

However, today it’s been a balmy 5 degrees and raining. Sounds like a cool day in Abbotsford.

Guess i’m being mind boggling again.

For road markings that last we need thermo plastic road markings with a sprinkle of crystal beads. Currently major intersections get this treatment, but that it. This costs more than the cheep paint they use now, but seeing as thermo plastic last three years between application the cost is the same over a three year horizon and safety is vastly improved… but its the up front cost our government won’t plan for. In Great Britain, and most of Europe, all roads are done with thermoplastics by law.

On the Island they also don’t have a 4″ center line on their two lane roads like we have in the North. On the Island they have a two or three foot painted median center line so as to space the oncoming traffic further apart for when it rains.

Palopu, I think you should go through the initial training that firefighters have to. Then if you can make it past that then if you pass the medical, physical tests then you can go on the waiting line to possibly become a fire fighter. Then after that you can decide what avenue you want to persue for a career fire fighter. I have gone through the fire fighter training school as it was a requirement for my job. I am sure you would be cowering in the corner ( if you would even enter the building) on the first floor of the 4 storey mock up instead of tending to a hose or the injured.

So far in the posting races:

PVAL is the clear winner

“What I liked about Linz was its clear water and there are not that many in the PG area.” .. you have obviously been going to the wrong places then. I have several walkin lakes within 1 to 2 hours of PG where the water is crystal clear and the trout are wild. If you are talking about all the stocked lakes within 1/2 drive of PG then I wouldnt’ waste my time there either, but to say there aren’t many good lakes around PG just shows how little you know about the area as far as fishing goes.

What has happened to the post game Cougar write-ups?? I enjoy the fans insight and opinions. Coach Holik has been here 3 seasons and his methods are ineffective–the PP sucks, the PK is porous, the goaltender rotation is confusing and is destroying Edmonds esteem, we have a lack of playing 60 minutes, etc.

Hey TReasure cove casino…..take care of your lights out on the east side of the hotel….What….John wont supply bulbs anymore???? It looks terrible. Welcome the country to this site I mean really…..terrible…..Thats why I wont give him a dime….

Palopu what’s your thoughts on Target Canada’s filed CEO getting 61 million for being a loser.

Palopu on the firefighters what do you think of their overtime. I guess let the fire burn before overtime.

Curious on what your skill set and pay.
