Prince George, B.C. -Motorists and pedestrians would be best advised to stay indoors today.

While freezing rain has made travel dangerous on area highways (see story here) the roads and sidewalks within the city are also very icy.

The above photo was taken at 3rd Avenue and Edmonton Street this morning while the photo below shows some roads are literally a sheet of ice.

The Prince George RCMP says there have been multiple minor collisions throughout the city.

They say one of the worst areas this morning has been Northwood Pulpmill Road where many vehicles have crashed or are stuck due to the road conditions.

Seven of the 8 sanding trucks  operated by the City are on  the road spreading sand to  ease the situation. The 8th truck is not available as it is in the shop for repairs.

ohhh the City work crews taking the weekend off??? Becoming the norm, the icy roads

City crews did a fine job on our street about 10 minutes ago. Cleaned and sanded. Great job.

And on another front, ICBC says all season tires are acceptable for use in winter conditions (sarcasm implied).

Awesome! You must live downtown since that is supposedly a priority.

Actually, the plows were in the Hart! Maybe cleaning the streets for the new sewer line?

Upside all the ice filled the potholes

would help pedestrians if the city didnt keep building slanted sidewalks. Flat ice is scarey, but slanted ice is downright dangerous. Would be nice if drivers would give a few extra inches/seconds to pedestrians before roaring past them like the roads are bare.

I can’t find too much to complain about with regards to the city’s snow removal this year. our street has been cleaned more times in 2015, a little more than a month, than it was all last year. I think it is a great job considering the crazy weather we are having but I think some of you would complain even about a perfect world lol

The city crews have been doing a very good job so far. The difference is amazing! Can’t say the same for YRB!

? YRB were salting the roads through PG just as the freezing rain started. It was slick for about an hour and then turned slushy while the rest of PG was still a skating rink. They made the bypass through PG driveable,

I would have to agree with slinky..Both YRB and the city are doing a phenomenal job given the circumstances of the constant changing weather conditions.

both city and yrb doing a phenomenal job…weather has been been weird where salt and sand dont work….it warmed up so we welcome the sand and salt….thank you for all you do,,,,road crews of PG…

I find that a lot of people don’t seem to know about ice cleats. They’re awfully nice when you’re walking around in these conditions.
