IIO Investigates Smithers Incident
Smithers, B.C.- The Independent Investigations Office has sustained jurisdiction in a matter that involved Smithers RCMP and an adult male.
The IIO reports that on February 14th, police responded to a residence where an adult male was distraught and emotional. According to police, officers had to use pepper spray to help them bring the man into custody as he was refusing to cooperate.
Almost immediately after being sprayed, the man became unconscious and Emergency Health Services personnel were called to the scene. The man was taken to hospital, where he remains.
An IIO team of a Primary Investigator, and investigator and the Manager for Services for Affected People ( victim services) arrived in Smithers on Wednesday.
The IIO team has since conducted numerous interviews with civilians and police and has obtained additional evidence from the scene.
The IIO team is expected back at its home office today.

I some how doubt the pepper spray is totally at fault here…if at all.
the police have to have some tools to control the uncontrollable…
better than shooting them…
unless they are going to put doctors and or or psychiatrists in the cars to handle these people.
Amazing that some people are so stupid thinking they’re going to win a fight with the cops…
. . . or walk away uninjured or alive from such an encounter.
