Wind Storm Downs Trees Knocks Out Power

Prince George, B.C. – The storm that ripped through Prince George this afternoon, knocking out power in a number of areas of the city,  also  downed trees. Otway Road is closed in both  directions at the Nordic Centre  because of downed power lines.  There is no detour.North Nechako Road was closed to all traffic between Sydney Place and Rustad Road for a time this afternoon as   Prince George Fire Rescue crews  cleared the road of  debris from a tree that had come down during the peak  of the storm.

High winds and hail were  experienced in various parts of Prince George,  and BC Hydro is now reporting  66 outages  affecting nearly 18 thousand customers  from Williams Lake through  Prince George.  While another  near 5,000 are in the dark from Vanderhoof to Burns Lake.

At this time the only estimate  from BC Hydro for return to service is noon tomorrow.

The power went out here on the Hart for a few seconds, came back on briefly, then went out for a few minutes. Very odd, but nice that it didn’t last long.
