30 Northern Medical Program Students Graduate
Prince George, B.C. – It was graduation day for the eighth class of students from the Northern Medical Program Saturday.
The 30 graduates received their shingle and their long coat as they transition from students to doctors.
“On behalf of UNBC I congratulate all of you on achieving this incredible milestone,” said UNBC president Dr. Daniel Weeks. “It’s the end of one part of your career and only just the beginning.”
He also remarked of the program, “it’s been 10 years strong now the Northern Medical Program has been at UNBC,” said Weeks. “It’s not only creating the next generation of medical professionals in the North, but creating world-class research here, relevant to northern communities.”
Two awards were also handed out: Jordan Koopmans won the Dr. Tony Eckersley Memorial Award for Family/Emergency Medicine. And Ryan LeBlanc won the Dr. Joe Sidorov Award of Excellence in Internal Medicine.
Koopmans is going into Family Medicine residency in Terrace and noted “it is a real privilege to undertake this residency position. I know I am going to acquire many more skills, and also refine what I have learned up to this point, during the two years that I will be training in the Northwest.”
