Man in Critical Condition Following Shooting in Williams Lake

Williams Lake, B.C. – A 28 year old man is in critical condition following a shooting Saturday night in Williams Lake.

Corporal Dave Tyreman says it happened in the 900 block of Western Avenue.

He says the altercation involved two cars.

“It is believed that the vehicle in which the victim was a passenger in, was being pursued by a second vehicle,” says Tyreman. “As the chase proceeded through the 900 block of Western Avenue toward Highway 97, occupant(s) of the pursuing vehicle fired several shots at the lead vehicle.”

It appears just one person was injured, but police say things could have turned out much worse.

“We the police, cannot stress enough, the seriousness of this incident which took place in a residential area at a time when the majority of the occupants were home,” states Corporal Jason Pole of the Williams Lake General Investigation Unit.”Multiple shots being fired from the suspect vehicle that was traveling at a high speed through a highly populated residential area created an extremely high risk to our community. It is a blessing that no one was hit by a stray bullet.”

He asks anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call police.

Coincidentally, it appears this pursuit occurred in the same place as a stabbing a week earlier.

In that case, two woman were fighting out front of a residence when a group of people came out of a nearby residence and attacked one of the men who was with one of the woman involved in the fight.

The man was stabbed twice, but survived the attack.
