Friday, June 26, 2015 @ 3:59 AM

Quesnel, B.C.-  The City of Quesnel  is getting  exactly what it asked for, $300 thousand dollars  for a  transportation plan. Ministry of Transportation has announced it will devote $300 thousand dollars over the next two years to conduct a transportation plan for Quesnel.

The  Ministry of Transportation  has  announced it will  devote $300 thousand over the next two years  to  conduct a transportation plan  for Quesnel.   The announcement comes  just   a couple of weeks after Mayor Bob Simpson  wrote to the Ministry   calling for an “expedited response” to their request for  such a plan.

Quesnel has  several concerns with the current traffic pattern which sees  industrial and hazardous goods travelling on highway 97,  through the heart of the community, there are also safety and  air quality issues.

The  Provincial   plan will also examine the  possibility of an east-west  link that would  service  industrial  development  west of Quesnel.

In a recent interview, with 250News,  Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson  said the community has  concerns about  the potential of a hazardous goods disaster  happening   so close to the  hospital.  Simpson also  told 250News  there have  been  four different route suggestions over the  years, but there hasn’t been  any solid  decision  on the type of route that is needed.

Minister of  Transportation, Todd Stone  says  his  Ministry is “committed to work with the City of Quesnel to establish future project priorities to improve traffic flow through the downtown core. We’re looking forward to starting a much-needed study to address the area’s transportation needs.”

In addition to the transportation plan, there will be some  resurfacing work started in Quesnel .  That work will   be done  in four areas:

  • Highway 97 between Quartz Road and the junction with Highway 26.
  • Highway 97 between Naver Road and Plett Road.
  • The approach to the weigh scale located south of the junction of Highway 97 and Highway 26.
  • 6.6 km of local side roads.

The recycled asphalt product generated from the milling of the pavement on Highway 97 will be re-used to resurface the local side roads.

– lol, who wrote this?

Just in case you missed it the first time?

Throwing Rover a very small bone – this urgent issue has been put on the back burner again! One would think that the Lac Megantic fiery deadly incident serves as a lesson to the whole country!

Heres an idea. Lets spend 20 Billion dollars over the next 20 years and bypass every City, Town, and Hamlet from Prince Rupert, to Halifax NS. By the time we finish industry will have built up around the bypass, and we can start all over again.

Sounds good to me Palopu but let’s start with Quesnel.
