When a new pipeline that is supposed to have state of the art spill detection ruptures and spills 5 millions litres of toxic crap, which is not discovered until someone just happens to walk by and see it, the entire pipeline industry must realize that any effort to massage public perceptions in favour of pipelines is doomed.

I agree Krusty, our First Nations in BC, who oppose the proposed Enbridge Pipeline, are correct in their assertions that; “it is not a question about if a pipeline will rupture, its a question about when it will rupture.”
If a brand new pipeline, only one year old, can rupture and cause the biggest land based oil spill in Canadian history, what pipeline can be trusted?

In my view it makes the likelihood that it was an act of eco-terrorism very high. Remember the pipeline bombing in the Peace a few years ago?

Wild imagination vor . I remember it and it looked a great deal like a false flag operation to me , like we’ve seen before from our finest .

Or maybe VOR was referring to this act of terrorism? Sick stuff… and yet under Bill C-51 we are giving them even more power.

You will never see economically viable non-oil based energy until the last drop of oil is pumped out of the ground. Trillions have been invested in the petroleum industry’s infrastructure and they aren’t going to let anything get in the way of recouping that investment. No matter who’s in power, the industry will either use their money to buy them off, or destroy them.

ski51, If that is the case where the fossil fuel industry will not allow economically viable non-oil based energy until the last drop of oil is pumped out of the ground… then we have a problem:
“McKibben’s article has been so influential that the very specific numbers it contains are now often cited as a kind of unchanging gospel truth. Those numbers are as follows. Limiting global warming to the agreed global target of 2C means staying within a ‘carbon budget’ of 565 GT (gigatonnes or billion tonnes). That is a fifth of the 2,795 GT that would be released if all the world’s proven oil, coal and gas reserves were burned. Therefore four-fifths of the fossil fuel must stay in the ground.”
In other words “if” the last drop of oil is pumped out of the ground, our planet will be dead. So there we have it, a very large, rich, and influential fossil fuel industry verse a undeniable unmovable scientifically proven fact. Wow, that the fossil fuel industry will do what it takes to maximize their profits by extracting all the oil, at the cost of our planet and us as a surviving species, I am betting on our basic instinct to survive as being stronger and not allowing them to.

When oil prices rise above $100/barrel, we will see the return of extreme hydrocarbons. There will be plenty in the ground when we stop extracting. It will just become too expensive, making alternatives viable. Right now there is no viable alternative to replace our oil economy. Plastics, lubricant, fuels, etc, etc, etc. Eventually, the market will provide alternatives. Unfortunately, Big Oil has the governments ear, and does distort the market. But Mr Market will get his way, hopefully before it’s too late.

Ski there are two things that will get in the way . The laws of thermodynamics and ificiency . Govsux the oil price is supposed to stay below 100 dollars till 2020 .
