Skate Park in the Hart Up for Council’s Discussion

Monday, August 17, 2015 @ 3:54 AM

Prince George, B.C.- When City Council for Prince George held a community meeting in the Hart, one of the items  brought  forward for discussion was the need for a  skate park in the  area.  There is a skate park on Massey Drive in the bowl area of the City , but the  location is  difficult  for  Hart  area  youth to access .In a report to Council, Director of Development, Ian Wells, says the City is working with  the Hart Community Association and the Nechako  Rotary Club to  pursue concept designs for a skate park and other improvements to the Darren Fitzpatrick Bravery Park.

The Nechako Rotary Club has  already secured funding and  the services of New Like Skateparks Inc to  come up with a design and cost estimates.  This is the same company that  designed and built the skatepark on Massey Drive.

The  development of the concept plans  for a 9,000 square foot skatepark  could start this fall,   with  a concept design ready in early November.   The Hart skate park  is being considered  for the 2016 Capital plan with a cost component of $500 thousand dollars.

The Nechako Rotary Club and Hart Community Association are pursuing fundraising for both the skate park development and overall park improvements.Other items on the agenda for this evening’s regular meeting of Council include:

  •  An update on the construction of the Site C dam
  • Two informal hearings for development variance permits
  • report on a rezoning application for  Brink Place  to allow for a  residential subdivision.
  • Notice of motion from Councillor Merrick  calling for options to remove  on street parking in bike lanes on collector and arterial roads

A park for the Hart… tax dollars spent in the Hart. Maybe I am still asleep or didn’t read that right.

Yes, the Hart….It is in the city limits.
College Heights is not the center of the universe.

My understanding is the Hart Ski Hill may not open this year, so it would be great if this went through so the kids got something to do part of the year. Tired kids are good kids because they get in less trouble.
