Busy weekend on the highways
Prince George, B.C.- North District RCMP had plenty of members patrolling the highways on the long weekend.“For the most part, drivers were well behaved” says North District Traffic Services Staff Sergeant Reinhold Weisbock.
There was one fatal single vehicle roll over crash, which happened on highway 97 near Sintich Road. That crash is being investigated by the Prince George RCMP detachment.
Throughout North District, there were eleven drivers issued Immediate Roadside Prohibitions with license suspension for 90 days for being over the legal limit for alcohol . Five of those suspensions were to drivers in the Prince George, Quesnel and Vanderhoof areas.
There were two other drivers who had their licenses suspended for 3 days for blowing “warn” on the roadside breath test.
There were 18 drivers cited for excessive speeding, which means their vehicles have been impounded for a week. S/Sgt Weisbock says in one case, a motorcyclist from Ft. St, John was clocked going around a corner near Mackenzie at 189km/h “The bike is now impounded in Mackenzie and that rider had to find some way to get back to Ft. St. John.”
The name of the driver who died in the Prince George roll over has not yet been released.

189 km/hr.
117 mph. That is shifting along…. Sure hate to hit a bump doing that kind of speed. Launch you 100 ft, dead before the second bounce.
There are some wide sweeping corners in that area and even some smooth pavement here and there. That speed is not difficult to achieve or control with many of today’s bikes, and cars as well. Not to say it is not unsafe, but in the absence of other traffic and with clear sight lines; pin it!
