Premier Christy Clark at Telus Cup announcement.
Prince George, B.C.- The Cariboo Cougars will be hosting the 2017 Telus Cup, the national tournament for midget hockey.
Premier Christy Clark was on hand for this afternoon’s announcement at Kin 1.
The tournament, which rings together the top AAA midget teams from across Canada, will be held in April of 2017.
The Telus Cup ( formerly the Air Canada Cup, and originally the Wrigley Cup), has been the National Championship AAA Midget prize since 1974.
The current champions are the Toronto Young Nationals, who took the title at the tournament held in Quebec this year. The 2016 championship is taking place in New Brunswick.

More good news for PG! Should be exciting for our Caribou Cougars!
Great news! We need to keep being loud about our city, and work to turn our (misrepresented) reputation around.
Great to see PG be the center of attention in BC lately.
That is great news for our AAA Midgets. But certainly Christy is not in town just for this announcement. Why is the Premier in PG and did she bring her chequebook.
Great tournament in 2001. Awesome final game Quebec vs Calgary. Steve Bernier’s ot winner for Quebec. A little word of advice for the organizers. Please no music from the Blues Brothers soundtrack between stoppages.
Apparently Christy did bring the chequebook. The gov is making a financial contribution to the tournament. The 250 story fails to mention this important piece of information.
The premier was in Mackenzie opening a co-gen plant earlier. Saving tax payers money by having 2 functions with 1 trip instead of 2.
I feel an election is approaching, the premier is going past hope a little more often. It’s great that the north is getting support, I just wish it was more than once a year.
