Yeah!! Cougar hockey tonite.

I am voting for change. I want a government that treats Canadians with dignity and respect. The Stephen Harper government has been arrogant, dishonest and obstructive of parliament and the courts. I what a government that values all Canadians not just those that have purchased influence.

WorkingWoman: So where’s your vote going? From what I’ve seen and heard, we don’t have any good choices.
Let’s face it, most of the people who are in politics are not the sort of people we would call friends, I hope. The whole system is filled with corruption of one sort or another.

I can’t believe the number of drivers who are completely ignoring the speed limits in construction zones! At least one fellow found out the hard way on Wednesday at the Telachick project. It sure would be nice to see a heavier police presence in those areas.
The poor flag people must be afraid for their lives out there.

I was just making the this observation to my wife, Give More.

Everybody is speeding now. 20, 30 kms over the limit.

And if a driver has the unmitigated nerve to ( gasp) do the speed limit or even 10 over, the idiots fly up behind you to make a point, then mercilessly tailgate you.

We need a LOT more speed enforcement. I’m even for getting photo radar back, this time more stealth installations to catch all the morons on Domano, Ospika hill, etc.

Just fed up.

Substitute “Pierre Trudeau”, “Jean Cretien”, “Brian Mulroney”, etc. etc. etc, for “Stephen Harper” and you’ve pretty much described Canadian politics.

News headline this week: Pentagon refutes Harper F-35 statements.

Harper tried to scare the dickens out of Ontario aircraft parts manufacturing workers by stating that billions of dollars of business would be lost if Canada does not purchase the F-35 attack jets. Thousands of jobs would be in jeopardy.

The Pentagon refuted every bit of the Harper statement. The Canadian aircraft manufacturing bids were won in competitions and are totally separate from anything F-35 related matters, even though Canada manufactures some parts for the F-35 together with parts for other planes and will continue to do so. If Canada decides not to buy a single F-35 it will not have any effect on that industry. Also, Canada has never committed itself to buy any F-35s. There is no F-35 contract, there are no potential penalties of any kind. So much for trying to scare the people.

Saw this on twitter and got a good laugh out of it…

BC Grog–I SO agree with your comment. I have to drive the Hart hill all the time; The tailgating and middle fingers I’ve seen!! Sorry, but I’m just not going THAT fast; I’ve seen deer jump out off the hill, and cars coming out of the hidden driveway. No way can you stop in time for things like that.

Speed is not the # 1 killer on the highways, its inattentive driving and people who don’t drive well.
As far as the speed limit goes people are saying the speed limit is too low and are voting with their foot.
Generally the traffic flows at 20kph higher than posted, that’s the reality. If you do the posted under good conditions YOU are the problem.

Prince George, if Canada did not buy the F-35 would there not then be a considerable LESS demand for the parts of that plane ‘made in Canada’? For then there would be fewer F-35’s produced, would there not? So Canadian aircraft workers could indeed see an effect on their employment, for there’s no certainty that any contracts to make parts for a different choice of plane would go to the Canadian aerospace industry.

Prince George, nice Liberal talking points but the fact remains

“If, in fact, the Canadian government were to decide not to select the F-35, we will certainly honour the contracts that we have here with the Canadian industry, but our approach in the future would be to try to do business with the industries that are in the countries that are buying the airplane,” Orlando Carvalho, executive vice-president of aeronautics at Lockheed Martin, said in a 2013 speech in Montreal.

The F35 is a partnership aircraft. Do your homework before posting Liberal talking points based on one quote. Yes they will not take away the contracts we already have but we not be bidding on contracts in the future on the aircraft. it is a win for the other partners if we do.

I’m sorry, but I’m not going to go 80 past residential areas with kids walking to school or waiting for buses so that some lead-footed person can feel like they are right. We have speed limits for a reason. The roads in town are not freeways.

Good drivers drive for the conditions ( the speed sorts itself out), sounds like you follow rules blindly.

Chances of a terrorist attack in Prince George super low.
Chances of getting killed by someone talking on a cell phone while driving in Prince George, extremely high.

Last thought for today = Bye bye Mr. Harpa
http://harpometer.ca/

The problem with letting traffic set its own speed is that that may work for conditions that the drivers can easily see, such as width of the road, road surface, incline, and curvature, but there are conditions that the drivers can’t easily see or are unlikely to take into account, such as roads entering just past a turn, a school bus stop, an intersection, a temporary work zone. Drivers also tend to drive at what seems like a safe speed for themselves. Even if they are right (and a lot of people over-estimate their driving skills), they aren’t taking into account other drivers, who may be less skilled or tired or distracted or have vehicles that are less capable.

I just want to know what is so special about driving in the left lane. Everday driving to work, I find the right lane traffic moving faster than the left because some num nuts doesn’t want to miss there left turn 5km’s down the road. It’s not just the big rigs that drive side by side from one end of town to the other either. It’s because someone feels entitled to drive in the left because thats what side of the bed they woke up on!

Good drivers drive for the conditions

billposer with a score of 0, what you have described is a ‘not good driver’ good drivers take these things into account and respond to them.

charles – why don’t you start your own news web page instead of littering all over this one?

“Prince George, if Canada did not buy the F-35 would there not then be a considerable LESS demand for the parts of that plane ‘made in Canada’?”

No, not considerable at all! A potential 65 planes out of approximately 3,500 is about 2%! It will take years to fill the confirmed orders.

“Realistically, the likelihood of worldwide F-35 sales is closer to the figure now given as the order total for the program partner countries, that is, “up to” 3,500 aircraft.”

Much greater sales figures were released before but the projected total over many years of production is a lot lower now. Some countries have bailed out, others are still in.

A pedestrian was hit by a car over by J.D.’s kitchen this morning because a stupid little dog jumped into the lap of the driver and distracted her. When is there going to be a law about these things? These little dogs are just as bad as cell phones.

So was discussing Trudeau legalizing pot if he gets in. Couldnt really think of any downsides.. but numerous upsides.

1. It will mean tons of jobs across the country
2. It will be a huge increase into the governments coffers with taxing the sale and the income tax from all the workers employed in the line of work.
3. will take a big burden off our justice system
4. will take a big burden off our jails.
5. will allow the cops to focus on other crimes.
6. Will hopefully help with spousal abuse as %95 of police calls are alcohol related… if there is another drug besides alcohol to partake in it may help.
7. you dont black out, puke.. etc if you over indulge in pot alone.
8. only a very small percentage of the population get aggressive when stoned on pot compared to a large percentage when drunk.
9. there are numerous ways to partake in pot without having smoke it so there is no smell if the person decides to not smoke it..
10. will impact the illegal drug dealers big time.
11. its not addictive

I know there will be some who disagree with one or all my points but thats why we are here :)

The Christian law enforcement/corrections industry will have none of it……..but they will soon be out numbered if young people decide to vote.

Good morning to all my friends in George. Cloudy drizzly day in Abby but the future weather looks good. Missed you all last week as I was in the touring mode. Made a trip to the West and East Kootenay and had a swim in Radium Hot Springs. I know you are all in the election mode but I have to share my trip with you.

Stopped for lunch at Nelson BC what a busy place and the ferry ride is free from Kootenay Bay to Balfour. I worked for a number of years out of Nelson and have always felt that the West Kootenay was the jewel of our Province. It’s a very scenic place and has all amenities one needs.

There is an Italian restaurant in Trail. The Colander and does it ever turn out great spaghetti and sauce that makes your mouth water. When we stopped by there was a line up at the door of at least 15 or so people waiting to get seated. And don’t drink the wine I think they brew there own it’s a bit rough.

The Columbia and Kootenay Rivers join at Castlegar and talk about Site C power there are five hydro dams on the Kootenay between Nelson and Castlegar and another big dam jut outside Castlegar on the Columbia river. Just out of Trail on the Pend d’Oreille river that drains into the Columbia is another BC Hydro dam and one now owned by Fortis.

Well I had better go now as I’m sure there will be some great comments for me to read when this item is posted. And I hope that you have all checked out “Harperman”.
Cheers

Using pot for medical reason makes sense. Using it to get high, is no different that drinking alcohol, to get high. If you are not drinking or smoking for the effect then why are you doing it.???

Just what this Country needs, is to add a bunch of pot head drivers, to the people who text and drive, and drink and drive, and those who drive with animals on their laps. It could get pretty scary out there on the roads.

Heyyy mannn, that was a lonnnnnng left turn. Where’s the next turn mannnnn.?

If where your driving is called a street, blvd, drive, ave, road, lane etc, you shouldn’t need to be going over 70kph as intersections crosswalks and other interruptions come into play. If your on a hwy take your chances and pay the fine. We need more enforcement especially with winter coming.

Palopu your statement shows your ignorance about pot.. It’s a huge difference in getting drunk or stoned on pot..

Smoke a joint and 1.5 – 2 hrs later you are “sober”. Alcohol 4-5 times as long to get sober once you stop drinking.
Also if you think people aren’t driving stoned now you are fooling yourself.. People are driving high on pot, Coke, heroin, meth etc. No matter if it’s legal or not..that’s just how some people are.

Why do people drink..smoke pot.. To enjoy life in a different frame of mind. Did you know if you have 5 joints and smoke them all at once you only get so high? Not like alcohol where you get the enjoyment of blacking out, puking, getting into fights when you over indulge.

Next you will say kids will start smoking it like the do with drinking.. Well did you know that kids/teens right now find it easier to get pot than booze?

Next you will say it cooks your brain… Scientific research proves that wrong..they also now think it will help stave off Alzheimer’s.

I know you love Harper and he loves building jails.. Since it cost about $83,000 a year to house each criminal the less we have in jail the better. Getting 2 yrs for possession is crazy.. Getting nothing for possession because it’s legal makes sense..

Kdilla-Harper hates you On YouTube . Sad but so true .

Prohibition failed with alcohol. Prohibition funds gang activity. Make drugs legal and then the government can regulate their quality, saving many lives every year.

Does anyone think that prohibition serves any purpose except to bolster the profits of the pharmaceutical corporations? LOL. Right.

Several countries have legalized pot (beginning with the Netherlands) and even more countries have decriminalized it. Those who use it will use it no matter what. The dealers get rich and we pay for all the policing. courts and jailing.

Just legalize it, control it and tax it. It is here and it is here to stay.

Good point ataloss and furbink.. Just think of all these people on prescribe “happy pills” driving.. But that’s okay because a doctor prescribed them.. And then the side effects of these pills.. So much Prozac is given out in the states they are finding it in their drinking water.. So kids are in consuming it.. But at least it’s not pot..

Just saw the latest attack ad from the NDP, was pretty funny. Mulcair wants you to vote for him because he is ready, the guy reading his qualifications at the end of the commercial “yeah, he was in cabinet” in response to the gal saying “I like Mulcair”

If the best quality of Mulcair’s ability to lead the country that the NDP themselves can come up with is he was a part of cabinet we are all proverbially wrapped around a nail in a helix

How is it that PG has so many bad drivers. It takes 10 min to drive across town and it seems you need a drivers manual to complete the trip. Come on lighten up and smell the roses.
Cheers

“How is it that PG has so many bad drivers”…?

It’s because a very large percentage are staring down at their phone toy. Or else they are staring at their crotch. One of the two.

Furbink: Law abiding drivers are the problem?
Civilisation is based on rules. Some people don’t like the rules but they abide by them for everyone’s benefit. It is how we get along. Take away the rules and we’ve got anarchy.
That in effect is what you are promoting.
The professional drivers driving the Coquahalla are refusing to do the new 120 limit BECAUSE it is not safe.
One thing it will do is cause much more severe accidents.

Rural Post Office Boxes that were damaged/robbed on AUG 18th (over 5 weeks ago) have still not been fixed and 75 families from the Mcbride Timber Road area, which is 30 kms West of PG, are still forced to drive to the 15th Ave Post Office for their mail. Calls have been made to head office in Victoria and they keep saying another week, another week and now it is we’re not sure.

Just read on the CBC that Harper wants to sign Canada onto the TPP trade deal by next week, so as to do it before the election… but he will not release any of the details as to what he is signing.

We do know he plans to commit treason with the farmers, especially the dairy farmers giving up quota to the Americans with no reciprocity.

We also know it will have investor state resolution clauses that allows any corporation or state enterprise to sue the Canadian government in private tribunals for any lost profit they would incur due to sovereign Canadian domestic regulations or laws that are not consistent with the lowest common denominator.

I think it is pure treason to sign over our sovereignty and call it ‘enlightened sovereignty’. I think any that support Harper, are themselves enablers of a treasonous act that undermines greatly our country economically as well as in every other sphere covered by the agreement from the environment to work place standards.

Its a race to the bottom folks and Harper wants our industry to compete with American hormones and South East Asia labor rates. Its all but a white flag of surrender for a sovereign sustainable and diversified economy.

Best fries ever are at IFC in Fort St James.

F-35 is an under performing plane that is not suited for Canada’s Arctic, and has huge costs that will limit its ability to perform national security detail other than air shows and possible sneak attacks on enemies that don’t have modern air defense.

Worst of all is the code in the computers is the most complex ever written and it is 100% under American control… they can kill switch if they so choose, they can take over in flight… and they will know it making this capability null and void in their view when dealing with Canada.

I say we get Bombardiar to build a fast two engine jet that can carry a good radar, target over the horizon, and fly as fast as anything else out there. It could be done for a fraction of the cost of the F-35 and would do a heck of a lot more for Canadian industry.

“In 2011, Canadian politicians raised the issue of the safety of the F-35’s reliance on a single engine (as opposed to a twin-engine configuration, which provides a backup in case of an engine failure). Canada, and other operators, had previous experience with a high-accident rate with the single-engine Lockheed CF-104 Starfighter with many accidents related to engine failures. Defence Minister Peter MacKay, when asked what would happen if the F-35’s single engine fails in the Far North, stated “It won’t”.”

=============================

As a born and raised northern BC’er, I have to admit that IMHO, nobody does fries like the folks out here. There are fry trucks on almost every corner, many of them with their own special ways of cooking them, different potatoes, different salts and seasonings, etc. It’s a really big cultural thing we noticed when we first moved here. I won’t even get into the poutine, LOL.

P VAL comparing flu shot with marijuana, so sad.

I am enjoying a fabulous sunset over the Pacific right now and do not require any chemical help to enjoy the awesome sight, true natural high.

So you consider your doobi safe, read on

What are the long-term side effects of Marijuana use?

People who smoke marijuana often have the same respiratory problems as cigarette smokers. These individuals may have daily cough and phlegm, symptoms of chronic bronchitis, and more frequent chest colds. They are also at greater risk of getting lung infections like pneumonia. Marijuana contains some of the same, and sometimes even more, of the cancer-causing chemicals found in cigarette smoke. A study from 2009 suggests that regular and long-term use of marijuana may increase the risk for testicular cancer.

When people smoke marijuana for years they can suffer negative consequences. For example, because marijuana affects brain function, the ability to do complex tasks could be compromised, as well as the pursuit of academic, athletic, or other life goals that require you to be 100 percent focused and alert. Long-term abuse of marijuana may lead to addiction.

Marijuana also may affect mental health. Studies show that early use may increase the risk of developing psychosis (a severe mental disorder in which there is a loss of contact with reality) including false ideas about what is happening (delusions) and seeing or hearing things that aren’t there (hallucinations), particularly if you carry a genetic vulnerability to the disease. Also, rates of marijuana use are often higher in people with symptoms of depression or anxiety.2

Effects of Marijuana On Other Organs

Effects on the Heart

Shortly after smoking marijuana the heart rate increases drastically and may remain elevated for up to 3 hours. This effect may be enhanced if other drugs are taken with marijuana. One study has suggested that the risk of heart attack may increase by up to 4.8-fold in the first hour after smoking marijuana.11 The effect may be due to the increased heart rate, as well as altered heart rhythms. The risk of heart attack may be greater in those with specific risk factors such as patients with high blood pressure, heart arrhythmia, or other cariac disease.

Effects on the Lungs

After smoking marijuana, the bronchial passage relaxes and becomes enlarged, and the blood vessels in the eyes expand making the eyes look red. Studies have shown that marijuana smoke contains 50-70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke, and is an irritant to the lungs. Marijuana users tend to inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer than tobacco smokers do, which further increase the lungs’ exposure to carcinogenic smoke. Marijuana smokers can have many of the same respiratory problems as tobacco smokers, such as daily cough and phlegm production, more frequent acute chest illness, and a heightened risk of lung infections.1 A case-controlled study from 2006 found no links between marijuana use and lung cancer, but no evidence-based consensus has been definitively made on the absolute risk of lung cancer with marijuana use.12

Effects of Heavy Marijuana Use on Social Behavior

Heavy marijuana abuse may show low achievement in important life measures including mental and physical health, and career. Marijuana affects memory, judgment and perception. Learning and attention skills are impaired among people who use it heavily. Longitudinal research on marijuana use among young people below college age indicates those who use marijuana have lower achievement than the non-users, more acceptance of deviant behavior, more delinquent behavior and aggression, greater rebelliousness, poorer relationships with parents, and more associations with delinquent and drug-using friends.

Smoking marijuana can make driving dangerous. The cerebellum is the section of our brain that controls balance and coordination. When THC affects the cerebellum’s function it can cause disaster on the road. Research shows that drivers have slower reaction times, impaired judgment, and problems responding to signals and sounds if driving while under the influence of THC.2

Addictive Potential

A drug is addicting if it causes compulsive, uncontrollable drug craving, seeking, and use, even in the face of negative health and social consequences. Research suggests that roughly 9 percent of users become addicted to marijuana, with higher rates if the user starts at a young age (17 percent) and in those who use marijuana daily (25-50 percent). While not everyone who uses marijuana becomes addicted, when a user begins to seek out and take the drug compulsively, that person is said to be dependent or addicted to the drug.

Jet engines are much more reliable since the starfighter days. There is not a fighter jet out there that did not have a myriad of problems during development. Russians and Chinese have fighters in development and in the case of the Russians, in service now, that would make mincemeat out of the super hornet. Super hornet is old technology.

For those who smoke pot, or chew it, legalizing it makes sense to them,. For those who don’t it doesn’t .

Personally I could give a s..t. I have been around the horn enough times to know how alcohol and drugs effect people. I really am not overly concerned about the views of users.

As far as our prisons go, I sincerely doubt that anyone posting here knows how many people are in prison, and why they are in there. My guess is that possession of drugs is at the bottom end,.

Palopu – I would guess that most of the people in prison did not have a father around to help raise them.

That may be Ibear, but another interesting statistic is that the largest proportion are male and female first nations. One has to wonder how that problem can be solve

My point is that I am not in favour of putting people in jail for the simple possession of pot, however when it comes to dealing that is perhaps a different story.

In any event once pot is legal, then my guess is it will be produced and distributed by the major tobacco companies, much the same way that they handle cigarettes. If there is any money in the business its the big boys that will get it.

I am in favour of legalization. But only if its production and distribution is nationalized and for non profit other than taxes to government.

In the hands of for profit one will never have properly regulated health and safety considerations in its production and controlled markets for its distribution. For do it yourself types they could buy clones on the open market and grow 6 plants at a time and no more, otherwise penalties that exist today would apply.

For me it involves a heavy component in health considerations, free enterprise when selling clones to the public, and some libritarian views on a persons right to choose. Public information like Seamutt posts should also be prominent. I don’t think it serves anyone to allow the cermercialization of marijuana, nor with its current status as an under ground market.

I’m a huge supporter of the PG motorcycle toy run. However, riding my bike from CN Center to Chief Lake Rd and back is a bit ridiculous. A run to Hixon or Bear Lake would be a much better option than what they have going now. Have a look at the Qualicum to Port Alberni run as an example.

Sea mutt.. How much truth can you give any study paid for by big Tabbaco? And changing the meaning of addiction to suit the needs of the study shows that they will twist it till they get the results they want.

palopu, you can find almost everything you want about who’s in our jails if you want to search hard enough.

Palopu, interestingly, a snapshot view of two countries, the US & …us in regards to prison populations & drug use or possession. Here is Canada;
” Fine is the most common sentence for drug possession
In cases of drug possession, a fine was the most common sentence imposed (in 63% of cases), with a median amount of $200. The highest fines were imposed in Prince Edward Island ($400 median), while the lowest were given in Quebec and Yukon ($150 median). Nationally, a fine was imposed as the most serious sentence in 55% of cases, followed by probation in 22% of cases and imprisonment in 13%. In most provinces/territory, the median length of the sentence of imprisonment ranged from one to two months.
Drug Offenders in the Corrections System
The findings of A One-Day Snapshot of Inmates in Canada’s Adult Correctional Facilities Survey conducted on October 5, 1996 showed that the most serious sentence for which 9% of the on-register Canadian adult inmate population (including remands) were in prison was a drug-related offence.
Alberta (17%) and Quebec (14%) held the highest percentage of drug offenders in provincial prisons (Table 5). In British Columbia, the province that had the highest number of persons charged with drug offences, only 8% of inmates were incarcerated for drug offences as the most serious offence. New Brunswick also reported a similar proportion. In federal penitentiaries, those incarcerated for drug offences also accounted for 8% of all inmates.”
Quite tame in comparison to the American system where over 50% of inmates in federal incarceration are there for drug offences.
Personally I think pot should be legalized, a very high percentage of our population admits to using & compared to the detrimental effects of alcohol…

Like bankrupt what’s left of it. We tried that once, Eagle. The CF-100 was a good, Canadian made two engine jet. The straight line conventional wings blew off them if the two engines were opened full throttle, but that was a minor drawback. The Avro Arrow with its angled delta wing corrected that little problem. Good plane, too. But there was a few little, or not so little, problems. Who, besides the RCAF, could we sell them to? We weren’t at war, so we weren’t destroying them and in continual need of replacements. And how, if we were fortunate enough to find some other friendly country that was hot to buy some, could they pay us for them? What did we need from those countries in ‘trade’? Unlike Britain, and France, and the USA, (and even Sweden and the USSR, back then), there really wasn’t too much any friendly country could sell us back to cover the costs. We didn’t need any Middle East oil, at least not as much as we would’ve had to take to cover a fleet of Arrows. And the USA, and Britain, and France, and the Soviet Union, and Sweden all could, had to, in most instances, get that oil somehow. And we’ve pretty much got the same problem today. But maybe Trudeau’s new infrastructure bank can just create some ‘magic money’, and all the costs can be covered from the few the RCAF will buy.

Come on P Val you are just getting ridicules. So you are saying marijuana is healthy or are you just trying to justify your addiction.

socrdible all aircraft have a red line, a do not exceed speed so what is your point? The Avro Arrow would also have a do not exceed speed.

Did you ever hear of the cold war? That was the reason for the Arrow.
