BC’s Carbon Tax Takes World Stage, Again

Wednesday, October 7, 2015 @ 3:53 AM

Victoria, BC – BC’s Environment Minister will be profiling the province’s revenue-neutral carbon tax at an international conference in Peru today…

Mary Polak will be detailing the tax in an energy pricing panel discussion at the 2015 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund.  According to Ministry staff, the IMF is covering the minister’s expenses.

The ministry says panellists will be discussing the recent proliferation of successful carbon pricing mechanisms, such as BC’s tax, which was the first to be introduced in North America.

“There is increasing global recognition that carbon pricing is necessary to reduce GHG emissions, and BC’s carbon tax is a successful model to follow,” says the BC Environment Minister.

“I am excited to meet with financial leaders on this international stage and to encourage others to meet or beat our revenue-neutral carbon tax.”

Earlier this year, the IMF invited Premier Christy Clark to speak at its spring meetings in Washington, DC – the first time such an invitation has been extended to a Canadian Premier.

the biggest rip off of a tax ever created on lies.

Carbon trading now moves more money around than the much maligned oil industry. Just what does carbon trading accomplish nothing. Since the big banks and money houses are involved that fact alone should make people go WTF.

Mary did you know there is no reproducible science on man’s 4% addition of c02 into the environment it’s effects if any at all. Heck scientists don’t even understand the effects if any of natural c02. The so called science is based on computer models and they cannot even show the past let alone the future.

Mary you have been had and lied to by who ever advises you. Shows your inability to smell BS.

Carbon tax is a joke at our expense.. Foreign companies are buying up BC farm land to plant trees so they get these credits..that way they dont have to change anything but on paper their business is environmentally friendly.

Seamutt…yeah.. %4 is nothing.. so how about you get %4 of your leg cut off every year.. its nothing.. who knows what the effect will be..

geez muttly you so smart….let us know when you gonna make a run for office!!my bet ya voted for crusty…

How about either helping or perhaps getting out of the way of Solshare.ca et al , Mary . That would go a lot farther , faster than the carbon tax . Or at least take an all of the above aprouch .

Most of the greenhouse gas going into the atmosphere is caused by recreational driving, and cattle flatulence so the answer is really quite simple.

Cut down on your recreational driving, and quit eating so much beef.

Nothing funnier than someone driving to an environmental protest, and standing in line to get a hamburger.

I haven’t eaten cows or pigs going on two decades . I can’t understand anyone eating that stuff . Quiting eating it had nothing to do with my carbon foot print . That was a pleasent bonus . It had everything to do with trust . I don’t trust the industry . Canada’s inspections have been cut far too deeply . BSE keeps popping up . Why ? Recreational driving ? I call bs on that one . The ICE cars have reached their maximum efficiency potential . The only way to meet emission standards is to lie . I suspect it’s not only VW that are lying through their teeth .

Mary , if you want to see how it’s done . Visit Royalpark homes Simcoe shores development .

What a scam. Peru? They dump all their sewage into the oceans. They slash/burn all their crops, creating a haze for weeks. They have leaded fuel. They use chimneys/wood heat…

Yeah, great spot for climate change meetings. It’s like having a meeting for bullying at Jeffrey Dahmer’s appt.

“They use chimneys/wood heat…”

So do people living within city of Prince George boundaries! Sometimes one can cut the morning air with a knife, especially during air advisories!

“What a scam. Peru? They dump all their sewage into the oceans.”

So does the city of Victoria, B.C. Canada! Does that trouble you as much or not at all?

Pval what are you babbling about?

We burned all our slash in the bush for 100 years. It was only recently that we banned some open burning, and we still allow some bee hive burners.

Recreational driving is a major contributor. We all know it. We drive all over town for no reason other than to get out of the house, go to MacDonalds, the Theatre, Hockey Game, Park, River, shopping etc;/. The problem is we could do most of this once every week or two, but nooooo, we have to do it every day, and sometimes twice a day.

Average citizens are just as responsible for greenhouse gas emissions by driving the cars that the industry sells them.

A good example is the HOV lanes in Vancouver that were put in ostensibly to reduce the number of cars on the road. Guess what. The HOV lanes are hardly used, and over 90% of the cars have only one occupant, ie; the driver.

So accept your portion of the responsibility for polluting the atmosphere.

I guess those money lenders will show Mary how to buy and sell carbon credits.
Cheers

Ataloss hope you didn’t buy into this outfit

Hey still no details on your solar system or do you have more stories?

Mary whats your carbon footprint for the conference? Hey what’s the footprint for the whole conference? hypocrite.

Leroyjenkins, Victoria, B.C. dumps all their raw sewage into the ocean as well.
and according to the news recently Montreal is going to dump all their sewage into the St Lawrence River as well.

so I am afraid your argument is short of teeth.

Pal:”The HOV lanes are hardly used, and over 90% of the cars have only one occupant, ie; the driver.”

Driving to work is not recreational driving!

When I drive alone I am not inclined to pick up any hitchhiker! It is just too dangerous to pick up strangers! Why would I risk my life just to reduce my carbon footprint?

How do you know that drivers are not accepting the fact that they must drive vehicles which contribute to pollution? Train engines and delivery trucks cause pollution as well, so how do you propose they deliver the groceries to your favourite grocery store? You would starve to death if you took them off the road, so you should take responsibility for adding to pollution because you insist on eating!

Is this the tax corporations can avoid by purchasing farmland in the ALR and planting trees, or by burning diesel fuel in their cogen plants for the same reason?

From story above;
“successful carbon pricing mechanisms”
The only success is that someone figured out how to suck more money out of tax payers’ pockets in the name of saving the world.

And “There is increasing global recognition that carbon pricing is necessary to reduce GHG emissions”
Meaning that more and more political types are jumping on the band wagon.

I really like the comments about Ms. Polak’s carbon footprint, do you suppose that she sees the irony in flying half way around the world in a “big ‘ol jet airliner”** to go to a discussion on reducing ghg with like minded functionaries?

**with apologies to Mr. Steve Miller
metalman.
