Prince George, B.C. – Cariboo-Prince George Conservative MP-elect Todd Doherty says he’s ready for the next chapter in his life to begin.

“Everything that we did leading up to Monday night was so that we could hit the ground running Tuesday morning and we did just that,” he says.

“We had meetings on some of the things we were talking about, we had phone calls with mayors and councils and now we’re working towards the plans we’ve been putting together the last year.”

After meeting with stakeholders this week, he expects he’ll soon be sworn in as MP back east.

“We will likely head to Ottawa within the next week or so. We’ve had a few phone calls with Ottawa and the party to find out when the call is but it will likely be within the next week or two weeks.”

Another priority will be setting up an office and hiring staff though he’s not sure if he’ll open more than one in the riding.

“We will be setting up an office here in Prince George and are considering whether it’s feasible to have offices in other communities as well. Obviously I want to be fiscally responsible.”

As for the job itself, Doherty expects there will be a bit of a learning curve.

“I think with every new job there’s that period of time where you’re really figuring out the lay of the land and finding out out where your role is with the team.”

Does Doherty feel starting out on the opposition benches will present an even greater challenge?

“You know, I see the silver lining in everything and while it wasn’t the national result that we were looking for, I think this allows us a better opportunity to build our name within the party as well as hold Mr. Trudeau and his party accountable.”

But whatever happens in Ottawa, Doherty says he’ll be fighting for all of his constituents.

“It’s important we represent all of our region and I want to make sure people know they have an MP that will be visible and meet with groups as well.”

Im sure all the conservatives will finally fight for their constituents now that the muzzle and leash has been removed

…and transferred to all the Liberals elected.

Hopefully,he will have smaller travel expense than the previous individual – Harris. It will be interesting to see what he actually accomplishes as MP..beside a seat warmer.

TBSS could have been an entirety different story .

TBSS? = too bad so sad???

Any representation will be better than what we had.. Won’t have much of a voice though…. Working on a nice pension though.

Yes gopg . Too bad so sad .

oldman1, I have to agree the last rep, was useless as any person can be. But to make accusation on the new rep, before he even starts is a good indicator of your character as well.

He spoke – it was Harris who endorsed Todd ..makes one wonder!

Unfortunately, Todd became the rep, because Shari Green dropped the ball on an opportunity. Todd got in because Trent stole votes from Tracey.

Todd, your in. Because it was meant to be. Some will claim it was by luck. But, you can prove us all wrong. Make a difference in Ottawa. Thank you.

“Trent stole votes from Tracy” ???

???

Trent was winning a week out, then Liberal Party fever spread across the country and the Conservatives ended up winning in this riding because NDP votes migrated over to the Liberals.

I’m not denying that Tracy had a good campaign, but ultimately because she did, Todd ended up with the seat instead of Trent. Whether you think that was a good result or not is personal opinion.

Where is he running to? Looking for a house in the OK?

Todd’s toughest job ahead is trying to stay awake during Question Period as backbencher of the Opposition.

Sgsc,

Trent and his campaign misled voters by saying it was a two way race. That single poll of 500 voters showed Tracy in the race as well. But Trent used part of the poll and only showed his results and Todd’s. Trying to convince voters to vote NDP. You guys can spin it whatever way you want it is politics.

But to come on here and say the strategic vote helped Tracy’s campaign is ridiculous. No where did the 308 group, vote together, leadnow or any other group tell voters to pick Tracy. She just out worked him.

Trent’s campaign along with the other strategic voting sites got this riding wrong and it pulled votes from Tracy’s campaign. And allowed Todd to come up the middle.

Trent has had a hard go at public office two defeats running for council, one defeat running for Mayor, and now another defeat running for federal politics.

I guess he can try provincial.

I wish both Todd and Bob Zimmer well over the next electoral term. Both are hard working guys! Glad to see that Todd is ready to hit the ground running!

He better be! He will need to move fast as it looks like Justin is!

Justin has already phoned Obama to inform him that Canada will be withdrawing our military planes from Iraq and Syria. In March, Parliament approved a 12-month extension of the bombing mission and a related training effort in northern Iraq. All of this was done with Parliamentary approval!

It would appear that Justin has already made his decision and advised Obama, without any discussion in Parliament. While it is 100% certain that he would receive Parliamentary approval due to his majority, it would seem more prudent to at least have a debate in Parliament, followed by a vote!

The Libs and NDP complained about Harper’s autocratic leadership style! I wonder if Justin is set to follow suit?

Also, speaking of a debate in Parliament, Justin has yet to announce his Cabinet, the announcement is scheduled for November 4th. He has advised that his cabinet will have gender equality.

In my opinion, we have become far too politically correct. While I have no issue with gender equality, I would much prefer to have Cabinet Ministers appointed based upon their knowledge of the posting and their abilities, instead of whether they have a penis or a vagina!

If qualifications, skill sets and knowledge result in a Cabinet made up of Justin, with every other seat held by women, terrific! If it is a mix of both women and men, also terrific! If all men, terrific as well, so long as all appointees are appointed based upon qualifications and not what body parts they have or do not have!

I have worked with some very skilled people, both women and men! We succeed or fail, based upon our abilities, not our gender! IMHO, I would hope that Justin would appoint people based upon their ability to serve the position and the people of Canada, not based upon some politically correct ideology!

Whoever Justin appoints, I trust that Todd and Bob will do their best to hold them to account!

HGuy, perhaps you can call Zimmer and ask him to take a trip to Prince George to remove his election signs which are still littering the landscape here! Or is it too far for him? Or Palupo can do him the favour!

Just saying….

Hart Guy…what was one of Justins election promises.to get us out of that war…and whats he doing…getting us out of that war.

I know you are used to Harper who never lived up to any of his election promises..

” Hit the Ground Running ”

Sounds a little dangerous for this guy. Todd broke his own leg trying to run once.
Seriously. Ask him.

Harper is gone and Todd has an opportunity to be his own man. If he turns out anything like Zimmer then we will be in a big void for representation in PG. I am willing to judge the performance of Todd from this point forward and see if he can live up to his promise to represent the region.

P Val, yes that was one of JT’s election promises, but don’t you think that before calling Obama, would you not agree that it would behoove JT to appoint a Cabinet, recall Parliament, debate the issue and vote on it before a decision is made to withdraw our troops and advise Obama?

P Val, I am absolutely 100% certain that you would be all over this site, condemning Stephen Harper if he had done just what JT has just done?

Come on P Val, admit it! You would be blowing a gasket, haha!

PrinceGeorge, I’m assuming that you have access to a phone! If you see signs that haven’t yet been removed, from any of the candidates, please feel free to give Bob or any other candidate a call and pass on the sign locations!

Or, are you one of those people that expects someone else to do everything for you? ;-)

Based on what has been reported, Trudeau and Obama (who called him btw . . . interesting side note) spoke of Trudeau’s campaign commitment to withdraw from the bombing efforts, but to continue being engaged on other fronts in the fight against ISIS.

What else would you expect him to talk to Obama about? Conservative or NDP platform commitments? Or, would you simply have him refuse Obama’s call and ask him to get back in touch in a couple of weeks after he had named his cabinet?

If the President of the United States calls, my suggestion is to pick up the phone and start the engagement . . .

Hart Guy…no what would have surprised me would be harper living up to one election promise. But was never a worry.. as he didnt..

I love John Olivers clip about Harper.. was hilarious and true.

As for pulling our troops out.. Harper is a war monger.. he loves sending our soldiers into harms way..then forgets about them when they come back home..

Trudeau keeps them out of harms way.. and how long has he been in for..4 days ? Has done more for our soldiers already then Harper did during his entire time as PM.

Canadian Press Mar 31, 2008

“Harper also came under criticism early last year after he ordered the Peace Tower flag lowered upon the death of former U.S. President Gerald Ford, after having earlier refused to lower it for Canadian dead in Afghanistan.”

Im sorry how can anyone argue with Hart Guys logic on gender proficiency?

Looking at countries that have gender equalities is the best gage . They seem to be the most civilized . Just imagine women being paid the same wage as a man doing the same work or work of equal value .

Here is something related to the election and also happened in Australia, interesting read.

“They want $100 billion. In a world that’s broke, swimming in debt…” — Alan Jones

“David King was asked whether all the nations of the world were now, in principle, ready to sign their people’s rights away in such a treaty. Yes, but there are two standouts. One is Canada. But don’t worry about Canada. They’ve got an election in the Spring of 2015 and we and the UN will make sure the present government is removed. He was quite blunt about it.
The other hold out is Australia. And Australia we can’t do anything about because Tony Abbott is in office until after the December 2015 conference. So that means you all have to guard Tony Abbott’s back. Because the Turnbull faction, in conjunction with the UN, will be doing their absolute level best to remove your elected Prime Minister from office before the end of his term and , in particular, before the end of 2015, so that they can get 100% wall-to-wall Marxist agreement. They do not want any stand-outs. And the most likely stand-out at the moment is Australia. So look after him.” — climatescepticsparty

Woops double post, didn’t update my screen.

Hguy: “PrinceGeorge, I’m assuming that you have access to a phone! If you see signs that haven’t yet been removed, from any of the candidates, please feel free to give Bob or any other candidate a call and pass on the sign locations!”

I have been assisting another party to promptly remove many signs the day following the election! There is no way I would assist the candidate of another party in removing his! He put the signs there and he can either remove them personally or pay (!) somebody to take care of it!

HGuy:” Or, are you one of those people that expects someone else to do everything for you? ;-)

No, I do not and have not ever expected others to do things for me that I can do myself! :-(

Hart Guy wrote: “don’t you think that before calling Obama, would you not agree that it would behoove JT to appoint a Cabinet, recall Parliament, debate the issue and vote on it before a decision is made to withdraw our troops and advise Obama?”

Let me give you some advice HG, Justin case you are the type of person ready to take it.

Before you post what you think are factual make sure that you
1. They are accurate
2. They are reasonable

As the linked site shows, and as NMG stated,
1. Obama called Trudeau.
2. Obama did the reasonable thing by calling the Prime Minister elect of the neighbouring country.

I do not know whether any other world leaders called him, but I am sure that there are several countries, especially in Europe, who are glad that the Canada they have known since the second world war, whether Liberal or Progressive Conservative government was in power is back.

But, there are still millions of people like you, Hart Guy, who really do not have the faintest clue what that even means. But that is okay, we can live with that.

forgot to post the linked site

=========================================================================

Russia is probably overjoyed. If they even noticed, that is.

gopg2015, I’d sure like to be able to listen to the conversation between Obama and Justin. I sure as heck don’t believe everything that the CBC posts! The CBC? Come on, gopg2015!

In the White House’s read-out of the call, there is no mention of Trudeau’s decision to pull Canada’s CF-18 fighter jets.

Also, WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The White House said on Tuesday that it hopes the new Canadian government will continue to support the efforts of the U.S.-led coalition to fight Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq.

The WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary release on October 20, 2015 of the “Readout of the President’s call with Prime Minister-Designate Justin Trudeau” states:

“The President spoke by phone today with Prime Minister-designate Justin Trudeau of Canada to congratulate him on the Liberal Party’s victory in the October 19 elections. The two leaders agreed upon the importance of deepening the already strong United States-Canada relationship and committed to strengthening the countries joint efforts to promote trade, combat terrorism, and mitigate climate change.”

The read out continues but it makes no mention of Justin telling Obama that we are calling back our jets! It states that the two leaders committed to strengthening the countries joint efforts to promote trade, combat terrorism, and mitigate climate change.”

Committed to combat terrorism?

I wonder what that means?

gopg2015, in case you haven’t figured it out yet, I am much more inclined to believe the FACTS that are presented in President Obama’s “readout of the President’s call” released by President Obama’s National Security Council at the White House, than I am to believe ANYTHING that the CBC puts out as facts!

The CBC says one thing, the National Security Council says something a bit different, gopg2015!

Am I to believe everything that you believe?

Even before trudeau has formed a cabinet he has stated unilaterally he will pull the jets but keep some sort of support.

Unilaterally, is that not what all you liberal left were complaining about with Harper?

seamutt, I already mentioned that earlier in this thread, but all I got in return was the negativity of the leftie posters on this site!

In the wise words of Yoda: “Desperate they are to defend Justin!”

Haha!
