Thursday, November 26, 2015 @ 4:06 PM

Prince George, B.C.- There is now an air quality advisory in effect for Prince George.

Levels of  coarse and fine particulate have  exceeded the provincial targets.

The 24 hour rolling average for PM2.5  was  28.6 micrograms per cubic  metres,   the target is less than 25.

As for PM 10,   it was sitting at 51 micrograms per cubic metres.  The provincial target is less than 50 micrograms per cubic metre.

There is no indication on when this  AQ  Advisory will be updated.

The  declaration of an AQ advisory means the Free Fare for Clean Air policy kicks in.  That means  Transit in Prince George will be  free  from midnight  tonight until midnight  of the day the advisory is cancelled.

Burning of wood in woodstoves still going on within city limits! Cough, sneeze, wheeze! Laws are useless if they are allowed to be ignored without consequences!

Mean while there are 10 cars deep with engines idle at all Tim Hortins

Not just the Tim Hortons, they are at Wendy’s , A&W, etc; etc;

Seems driving around and getting yourself a coffee, or hamburger, is the latest craze.

I seriously doubt if anyone in this town gives much thought to the air quality. Certainly not enough to abandon their car and ride a bus.

Has anyone got a bus schedule for after midnight?

Is the Crosstown 10 still running? I used to love that route, LOL :)

My experience of riding the bus– It took an hour to get anywhere. Driving my car- took 15 minutes!! Bus schedules in this town are terrible; and lots of areas aren’t serviced.

NOW NOW do not worry, once site c is up and running we can all convert to electricity. I am certain that we the people will get reduced rates as it is our resource, right. Just go ask Christy.

“NOW NOW do not worry, once site c is up and running we can all convert to electricity.”

Well, I fully expect our government to mandate that all rail lines in B.C. must be electrified and that railroad diesel engines be phased out altogether! The amount of fuel used on railroads and the pollution must be enormous. All transit buses can run on rechargeable batteries. Free charging stations can be provided for private electric cars. Norway can be taken as an example. Canada has other hydro power opportunities that have not been tapped yet. Canada is finally setting some achievable targets for a greener society and GHG limits. Site C fits well into the overall strategy. Win-win situation!
