That didn’t last long

Prince George, B.C.- The Prince George Outdoor Ice Oval has been forced to close.
The cold snap that provided excellent conditions for making ice is over, and the mild temperatures and rain are just not conducive to maintaining the 2 inches of ice that had been developed.
The mild weather is expected to hang in for a while, so the ice oval is expected to remain closed for most of, if not all of the coming week.
Overnight temperatures have to drop far enough below zero to all volunteers to start making ice again, and if the forecast is correct, the ice oval will likely be closed until December 10th.

Nice million dollar investment…
Darned fickle weather!
I wish we had -10C from November 1st to April 1st.

A million dollars doesn’t mean you can control the weather.
But when our new government takes billions off us …..
carbon tax is supposed to buy cold weather right?
“A million dollars doesn’t mean you can control the weather.”
Actually that is around the figure that could by installing cooling pipes for an outdoor configuration. The Halifax Canada Winter Games cost about that much and it was popular enough to remain after the games.
BUT, it appears that it is considerably more popular than PG’s facility and can be used during the summer as well. It is much closer to the center of the city and other parks; it is the capital of the province and has about 4 times the population of PG.
Oh, summer use is for in-line and other roller skating ….. :-)
“carbon tax is supposed to buy cold weather right?”
Not if people do not believe in global warming.
Perhaps we will have to start a religion and build some churches to promote belief. :-)
Socredible.. Love your commitment to the dictator who lost the last election.. 170 billion he drove us in debt is fine with you..that’s the crazy part.
Carbon tax is a scam so companies that pollute can plant a couple trees to make it okay to pollute

No, the crazy part is the failure of ALL the Parties to change the way that governments do their books so that we can see the “Assets” as well as the “Liabilities.” Lets see how far the new dictator runs up the latter. I’ll bet 170 billion pales in comparison by the time those now swooning over him are sick of him. Or sooner.
And to think, less than a week ago, I got ripped apart on this forum when I predicted this would happen. When I said they were opening it just in time for the warm weather and they would have to close it within a week. I think even some “expert” came on here and corrected me saying the hard work the volunteers did would make it last through the coming warm weather. I guess it’s time to say ….. I told you so.

Not to forget the 14 billion dollar shipbuilding scheme which will ultimately cost 3 billion per vessel, totalling 45 billion. Just a slight error, of course! Should have bought off the shelf from other countries which have established military vessel shipyards with international sterling reputation. On time, on budget turn key delivery guaranteed!
Am I the only one who did’nt get the impression that it was closing for the whole season?!? Suddenly it’s all political.

Didn’t we get some subs that way? Once upon a time.

Okay, I’ll bite again…actually, Bent, it was your dismissive and cavalier attitude towards the volunteers who maintain the oval that raised my ire. At no point did I say that it would last through the warm weather. You may wish to go back and reread what was written. I do doubt that will happen.
Back to the volunteers – it is, at times I am sure, a thankless job and a losing battle. Imagine trying to make ice in an ever changing, and seemingly warming, climate regime. Then, imagine having people who have no idea what kind of commitment it takes to do this make uninformed and disparaging remarks. Imagine getting to do it over and over and over again in anticipation of the cold weather. Definitely not for the faint of heart or the short sighted.
A refrigerated oval in PG would be a great asset to the community – if done right, it could be used year round for all types of skating and, perhaps, cycling events. Skating is not just a one season sport. Oh the possibilities.

Yes, from the Brits, not only used, but also outdated, but did get some people to go under the surface.
Buying used equipment with specs for different people and different times is different from buying made to order … then we can sell them 20 years later to Nicaragua or whomever.
Buying used military equipement is a tad different than buying a refrigeration system. get a grip people.

I’ll second that motion.

I am surprised they haven’t appeared in front of council asking for money to get a refrigeration unit to make artificial ice.. The squalled that one during thew inter games and since council seems so eager to spend money on non-essentials , this might be a good time to ask.

The petty bickering between the speed skaters (who think they own the oval) and anybody else is not going to be solved by throwing any more money at this place.
To all you People that speak on your cell phones in public–Don’t be surprised if I stop and start listening to your conversation–after all you are saying it out load so you should not be surprised that I can hear it–it’s just I want to hear it all. Thanks for the entertainment.
Happy Friday!!!
I will not be purchasing a silly permit to cut down a Christmas tree on crown land.
Just saying…
Have a great weekend all :)
