Fatal Crash near Fort St. James
Fort St. James, B.C. – One person is dead following a two vehicle collision near Fort St. James this morning.
North District Corporal Dave Tyreman says the Fort St. James RCMP were called to the scene on Tachie Road, approximately 13 km west of Highway 27, just before 8 a.m.
He says a loaded logging truck travelling east on Tachie Road and a 2007 Chevrolet Impala travelling west on Tachie Road “collided in a corner and sent both vehicles off road.”
“The driver of the Impala, a 28 year old female from Nanaimo, BC died at the scene,” says Tyreman. “A 41 year old female from Fort St. James was taken by ambulance to Stuart Lake Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and is expected to recover. The driver of the logging truck was uninjured.”
He says both vehicles were heavily damaged in the crash adding the logging truck lost its load.
Tyreman says alcohol was not a factor in the crash noting road conditions “were extremely icy at the scene and appear to be a contributing factor.”
The road was closed in both directions for several hours and has since reopened.
No names have been released.
