Kelly Road Grad Signed By Roughriders
Prince George, B.C.- It’s been an amazing year for Brandon Deschamps, and the future looks very bright indeed.
A graduate of Kelly Road High School in Prince George, Deschamps was a key player in helping the UBC Thunderbirds win the Vanier Cup this year. Now, he has just been signed by the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Deschamps came close last year to joining the BC Lions, but didn’t make the final cut.
When 250News spoke with Deschamps following the Vanier Cup victory he said “If there’s an opportunity that comes along in the CFL I’m going to train as hard as I can for that and prepare for that but you never know.”
That opportunity is here with the Roughriders liking what they have seen in the 6-foot-0, 215-pound running back. Deschamps rushed for 1,098 yards on 150 carries in 12 regular-season and playoff games with the UBC Thunderbirds in 2015.
Deschamps credits the Prince George Minor Football league with developing his style of play ““I had coaches that put in the time. The thing about Prince George is that it’s physical, it’s almost old-school style football where there’s a lot of power, a lot of sweeps so I played with a pretty high level of physicality,” says Deschamps.

Congratulations.. You earned this with your hard work and dedication.
That’s fantastic for Brandon, but a bright future? CFL players don’t make very much money, which means they probably truly do it for the love of the sport, which is as it should be. I he wants a bright future though, he have to continue to develop himself off the field, as well as on it.
