Burns Lake, B.C. – It’s called the Chinook Community Forest and it has been established to support the rebuilt Hampton Affiliates Babine Forest Products mill and the Pinnacle Pellet plant in that region.A Community Forest agreement offers long term, area based forest tenures. The agreement is managed by a local government, community group or First Nation for the benefit of the entire community. In this case, there are eight partners, including the Village of Burns Lake, The Regional District of Bulkley Nechako and six local First Nations bands.
The Chinook Community Forest Agreement covers 90,670 hectares and has an annual allowable cut of 150 thousand cubic metres. The agreement has an initial term of 25 years.
