Break-in Suspect On Ice
Prince George, B.C. – An adult female is in custody and facing several charges in connection with a break-in and capture that had a rather unusual twist to it.
At about noon Sunday Prince George RCMP received a report of a break and enter in progress at a residence on Christopher Road in Miworth. A homeowner had returned to her home and found an adult female inside. The suspect fled in a pick-up truck, narrowly missing the homeowner but colliding with the homeowner’s vehicle. Police were called and located the vehicle near-by.
The suspect was tracked by a Police Service Dog team and was spotted on an ice flow on the Nechako River, about two kilometres from the truck. Police say she had started a fire on the ice and believe she was trying to destroy evidence.
Corporal Craig Douglass says the woman resisted arrest but was taken into custody without incident. Local boaters offered to transport the female and officer to a safer location along the river where she could be placed in an RCMP vehicle.
Police computer checks of the pick-up the suspect was driving found it had been stolen from a residence on 3rd Avenue earlier Sunday morning.
25-year-old Philicity Rhea Lafreniere of Prince George has been charged by Provincial Crown Counsel with:
- Break & Enter to Commit
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Mischief Under $5000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 (2 counts)
- Resisting Arrest
She was to appear in court today.
The RCMP want to thank the boaters who assisted police in transporting the suspect.
