Detachment Calls on IIO to Probe Arrest Video

Friday, March 18, 2016 @ 2:52 PM

Prince George, B.C.- The Prince George RCMP  have  requested  that an independent and external agency investigate the circumstances of the arrests that took place on February 18, 2016 in Prince George.

The request  follows the  release of a video which  recorded an arrest by Prince George RCMP officers of two occupants of stolen pick-up truck.

In a release issued this afternoon,  the local  detachment says “The RCMP takes concerns about member conduct very seriously and a review was immediately launched into the matter.”

Today,  the RCMP asked the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) to formally investigate the matter. The IIO BC has agreed and the investigation has been authorized by the Director of Police Services.

The Prince George RCMP will maintain conduct of the concurrent initial investigation relating to the stolen property.

The BC RCMP will await the findings of the IIO BC investigation and therefore has no further comments at this time.

So these people were driving a stolen vehicle running from the police and we’re taken into custody with out serious injury ? Sounds like the cops should of used a bit more force considering these criminals will get off with a slap on the wrist.

This isn’t Mad Max. Just as we don’t condone people stealing our property, we also can’t condone people who are sworn to uphold the law abusing their authority. Having a badge does not give anyone a right to use more force than they are legally allowed. It doesn’t matter if you agree with it, someday it could be you on the end of that force.

More Force was needed, I don’t want them to steal my Truck ever!Lock em up, Keys down the Sewer!

I get it, all jacked up on adrenaline. They got a little carried away, now the charges will probably get dropped

Excessive force yes I think so , however iio is staffed by former police officers and trained by former police officers…. thus … brotherhood shall prevail.

The criminals are totally wrong yes, but they are entitled to basic rights just as law abiding ones. Sadly people just want them deal with as a judge dredd type.

I can see how a police officer gets mean at times. They put their lives on the line all the time and get spat upon by the scum of the earth. I agree, they have to tone it down a bit, I totally forgive them otherwise. We have a fricken mess in PG.

So these up standing citizens resist arrest and don’t comply with the officers orders and there vilified ? These officers deal with the bottom 2% of our population all day. This is not the states where they draw there guns and shoot at the drop of a hat. These officers are protecting them selfs from Prince George’s finest. Walk a day in there lives prior to arm chair quarterbacking this situation

That’s pretty bold, perhaps your so called arm chair quarter backs have walked a mile or two in the police shoes. Perhaps they do nderstand the culture of what happens.

I have read that he is a convicted drug dealer, also has been charged with assault in the past. Now THIS , people with the bleeding hearts come on,, Stop it.Unless you live your life like this pretty sure you will have nothing to worry about.

Everyone has a past , is that reason to treat them different than any other human granted similar rights?

As I mentioned earlier – we have a process. They are both scumbags, but where do we draw the line ? Where is it ok for the cop to be the judge, jury and executioner? If here is ok…. how about if your daughter tells him to f-off while they’re beating her boyfriend because he told them to f-off after being dragged out of his car at a roadcheck? Can they now beat her as well as him? Slippery slope and all that. They are like their dogs – needed but best kept on a leash.

you don’t want a confrontation with the police…
do ask you are asked.
They tell you to stop…stop.
the tell you to leave….leave.
You give them reason to think they could be in danger, your actions and language are threatening and they are going to do what they have to do to protect themselves…and so they should.

bcracer – have you watched the video? They dropped to the ground as soon as their car door was opened. The cop still let his dog chew on him for over 5 seconds in spite of this. How much more compliant can you be? Unless you’ve worn a sleeve or bite suit you have no idea how poorly behaved the cop and his dog were.

From the video I think he complied, is on the ground and maybe the cop wants him to put his arms behind his back but the non compliance comes from trying to protect himself from the dog.

Might be the only time I agree with you…

If the video had sound we would know way more but since the person who shared this with the media is friends with the person in trouble, I don’t have any sympathy for the idiots in the video or the person who is friends with the criminal. Don’t be a damn criminal and you won’t get treated like BS and attacked from a PSD.

It seems the guy riding shotgun has quite a long record of appearances before a judge too.

My personal feelings on the video tape was there was not too much wrong, the court will kick them loose before the cop has completed the arrest paperwork. One of the main reasons that I have little or no sympathy for these two is that it comes on the same week that a beautiful 25 year old girl driving home from work was t-boned and killed by a couple of misfits driving what was described as an”illegally obtained” Range Rover. This happened on the Lower Mainland and I think the two were picked up somewhere in S.E. part of BC.

When these people get behind the wheel of stolen vehicles they don’t give a crap for the rules of the road and it is the RCMP that have to attend the scene when innocent people are maimed or killed.

When police perform actions like this they are only putting themselves in more danger. Some of these people are like an elephant and never forget and may come to harm you later. It is understandable that you have to subdue a person but does not give you the right to grind and pound a person after they are face down with there hands behind their back. the same type of thing happened in Kelowna when a person was down on all fours and the got kicked in the face. This type of conduct only makes it worse for the good police officers and there are many of them out there.
