Power Outages and Some Wildfires Cross the Region
Prince George, B.C. – There are 105 power outages across Northern B.C, leaving nearly 5,000 BC Hydro customers in the dark.
Communities impacted include Houston,, Smithers, Burns Lake Ft. St. James, Vanderhoof, Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and Fort Nelson.
There is one small outage in the Prince George area, in the Old Summit Lake Road area, where fewer than 5 customers are without power.
There have been a number of fires either started by trees coming into contact with hydro wires, or wind whipping up person caused fires.
In Prince George, a number of homes have been evacuated near the end of East end of Austin Road, where a fire in the Valleyview-Mesa area rapidly spread by high gusts of wind. ( see previous story )
There have also been evacuations near Fort St. John, because of a wildfire in the Baldonnel area .
The Northwest Fire Centre reports six new wildfires in that region, most near Burns Lake. Most have been extinguished or are in “patrol status”.
