Keeping the Kids Safe

Sunday, June 26, 2016 @ 6:58 AM

Prince George, B.C.-  In just a few days from now,  school will be  out for the summer,  and that means plenty of  youngsters will be  outside playing and may not be  focusing on  being safe near roadways.

According to ICBC stats,  on average,  seven pedestrians  aged 5-15 in the North Central region of  BC are injured in mishaps with  vehicles each year.

Drivers are reminded to slow down  and watch for clues that  young ones may be playing in the area.  Spotting things such as a  hockey  net,  or a  ball  should alert drivers to watch for children playing in the area.

Drivers are also  reminded to  watch for  cyclists of all ages  and sizes.  Making  eye contact with them lets them know  you have  seen them.    Check over your right should before turning right  to ensure  you aren’t cutting off a cyclist .

Parents are  encouraged to  go  over road safety tips with  children.
