Prince George, B.C.- WorkSafe BC and the Vanderhoof RCMP are investing a small fire that occurred at Canfor’s Plateau Mill on the weekend.
Shortly after 11 am Saturday, a fire broke out at the Plateau Mill about 25 km west of Vanderhoof.
There were no serious injuries and all employees exposed to the smoke were cleared.
The initial investigation suggests the flames were sparked during routine maintenance by a welding torch near the edger machine.
The fast response of Plateau employees and management resulted in this fire being controlled very quickly
, said Sgt. Svend Nielsen, Vanderhoof RCMP Detachment Commander, without their action and the swift response of the Vanderhoof Fire Crews, it could have been a lot worse
