Bilateral Agreement to Provide $160 Million for BC Transit Projects
Prince George, B.C. – Great news for transit users in British Columbia and Prince George specifically.
Premier Christy Clark and Liberal MP Stephen Fuhr (Kelowna-Lake Country) held a joint news conference this morning in Kelowna to announce almost $160 million dollars in federal and provincial funding for BC Transit projects across the province.
The agreement was signed last month with the money going to support new buses, facilities and technologies that will improve safety for drivers and passengers.
The money will also go towards capital projects including new buses and a $23 million new operations and maintenance facility for Prince George.
“Transit is freedom for a lot of people,” said Premier Clark. “It’s vital to make sure people in communities have the freedom to move.”
She also noted B.C. is the first province to sign a bilateral agreement on transit with the federal government.
