UBC Okanagan Tops Timberwolves

Prince George, B.C. – A two-goal performance from Courtney Hemmerling led the UBC Okanagan Heat to a 3-0 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves In Kelowna on Saturday.

Maya Bandy also scored for the Heat (2-1-0), who outshot the Timberwolves 14-6 in the match.

Chloe Ainsworth (Manchester, England) picked up the clean sheet for the Heat, while Lianna Toopitsin (Prince George, B.C.) made three saves for the Timberwolves (0-3-0).

Once again the Timberwolves’ offence lacked finish.  UNBC’s best opportunity to get on the board came in the 78th minute, as halftime substitute Paige Payne picked up a pass from Tianna Pius from just inside midfield. Payne got inside the 18-yard box, but her shot attempt went over the net.

The Timberwolves will try to get into the win column on Sunday at noon when they face the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack (0-3-0), who they defeated in an exhibition match in Edmonton in late August.

UBC Okanagan will try to sweep the weekend when they welcome the Alberta Pandas (2-0-1) to Kelowna at 1 p.m
