Prince George, B.C. – A generous donation today will make it easier for local families in need to participate in sports.

The Sorrell family presented a cheque worth $15,068 to Jumpstart – a Canadian Tire charity that helps to identify and support financially challenged families across the country.

The funds are the result of a golf tournament held last month to celebrate the life of long time Prince George resident Norm Sorrell.

As per Norm’s wishes, the money will go towards allowing kids to participate in golf and hockey.

Jumpstart is an active charity in Prince George. Most recently it organized the ‘Little Mudder’ challenge at Otway in June and their annual ‘CT CUP’ at Harwin Elementary last spring.

Had the pleasure to play hockey with Norm for many years. Also sat in many executive meetings on behalf of the league with Norm. He loved the game and was a big supporter of local sports. Was great to see that his memorial golf tournament was such a success. A true testament to a very good guy who died too soon.

Thanks Norm,

Makes me think, PG has lost some very influential and inspiring leaders in sport recently; Norman Sorrell, Mat Pierce, John Kazakoff, just to name a few… thanks for this legacy Norm.

I know the Sorrell family on a personal level. They are top notch good people. Norm did all the plumbing for my house. Yes a good guy gone much too early. Norm loved his sports. What a great idea to help kids who need the help. KUDOS to the Sorrell family!
