It’s Time Change Weekend

Prince George, B.C. – This is the weekend we go through the ritual of altering our watches, clocks and other timepieces.

We gain some extra time for sleeping or taking part in other activities by moving our clocks back one hour tonight.

Pacific Daylight Time officially ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov 6, 2016 as we move to Pacific Standard Time.

The reverse occurs at 2 a.m. Sunday, Mar. 12, 2017 as we move the clock ahead by 60 minutes and go from Standard Time to Daylight Savings Time.

With the time change this weekend ICBC urges drivers to exercise caution on the roads as the switch can driving abilities in a number of ways including concentration, alertness and reaction time to potential hazards.  It will be darker for evening commutes and at this time of year weather and road conditions and visibility can be affected.

The insurance corporation has a few tips to pass along:

-Be on the lookout for pedestrians and cyclists, especially at intersections and near transit stops.

-Get your vehicle fully prepared for a change in the weather.  Make sure your windshield wipers are in good shape and your wiper fluid reservoir is full.  Keep your windshield, windows, head and tail lights and mirrors clean.

-Stay on your regular sleep/wake cycle.  Don’t assume you are more rested and alert on the road the mornings following the time change as it can impact the quality of your sleep and affect your body’s internal clock.

The first political party that has abolishing this stupidity as part of their platform will have my vote. It would show they at least have some intellegence going for them …..

I’m with you. The time change causes a lot more trouble than it is worth.

Yes the time change is just plain stupid.I am not sure what has to be done to make this change. I know it has been talked about but nothing a appears to be happening.

I think we should all use UT/UTC/GMT – Coordinated Universal Time.

We are becoming a global world and a space age world.

go to work at 15:00 hrs and quit at 23:00 hours. Set you time piece. Who cares what the number is. Most people have a watch and look at it frequently (oh chit, I am supposed to meet someone in 20 minutes) that is why most people have one with them and most cell/smart phones display the time on the opening screen.

Then how is one to know when its high noon time? We will have a bunch of old gun slingers wandering around confused at quarter past three…..

In open carry states they do not wait till high noon.

They can be seen grocery shopping any time of day especially several years ago when some stores were trying to apply the “no shirt, no shoes, no service” edict to open carry individuals.

They came out in unusual high numbers to exercise their rights.

Stores went off with their tails between their legs for making a huge mistake.

I think move it ahead an hour or two and leave it at that. Daylight in the evening is much better than in the morning IMO.

Just move it back 1/2 hour (a compromise) and never touch it again.

It always galls me when ICBC makes a public statement giving us advice.

metalman.

And those of us who work tonight get to work an extra hour. Yay to the night shift!

No, you only work your regular shift. Don’t let the non union employers jerk you around.

I’m one of those non-union jerks… but some of the union employees are required for an extra hour. 24 hour job environment.

Oh goodness I misread that. See what happens when someone works nights and gets a bad sleep. I thought you were calling people jerks, you aren’t, but yeah we’re all required here for the extra hour. At least the unionized employees get their 1 hour OT out of this.

There is no serious consideration from govt about stopping this time change. Why can’t it be changed? Who is benefitting from not changing it? Follow the money.
