Thursday, November 24, 2016 @ 7:21 PM

Prince George  BC – The watermain which broke at 3rd and Vancouver today has been repaired.

The City advises residents in the area to run water for a few minutes to flush their lines.

Westbound lanes of 3rd Avenue have been reopened but eastbound lanes from Vancouver remain closed as the City plans to pave the repaired area in the morning.

Right on! A little duct tape and some haywire and we are good for another 60 yrs or so.

Good job.

It would be nice to know what was broken and why.

A watermain broke, it was almost 60 years old.

Now you know what was broken and why.

    Touché

billyinpg and Carpenter and others who obviously know nothing about maintaining municipal infrastructure read:

DETERIORATION AND INSPECTION OF WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS – A BEST PRACTICE

BY THE NATIONAL GUIDE TO SUSTAINABLE MUNICIPAL INFRASTRUCTURE

Published in 2003 by Canadian NRC

Monitoring the Deterioration of Water Distribution Systems.

This is what should be recorded at a minimum to project the status of the system

    • Split bell
    • Corrosion pit hole
    • Leaking joint
    • Leaking valve
    • Leaking service connection
    • Broken fitting

    Probable Cause of Failure
    • Corrosion
    • Ground frost
    • Joint failure
    • Disturbance (third party)
    • High pressure

    Type of Repair
    • Repair clamp
    • Replace pipe section
    • Replace valve
    • Replace service connection
    • Anode installed
    • Repair joint

The joke is on you… ;-)

I do believe they (city employees) know what was broken and have a good idea why, question is why you require the info? If you really require it for recording purposes then a trip to city hall or the public works yard would be in order.

Simple!! I think it makes for more knowledgeable discussion.

they are going to pave over partially packed wet gravel,
now there is intelligence if i ever heard it.

Hey, would you rather have it left just gravel? Can you imagine the potholes that would develop after just a few hours of traffic?

Such a warm week in November it probably saved the city $300-$400,000 dollars in snow removal costs… so maybe a wash at the end of the day after the watermain repair.
