Prince George, B.C. – Members of the New Hazelton RCMP detachment are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident which occurred overnight on Highway 16, 10 kilometres west of Moricetown and 36 kilometres west of Smithers.

Information is sparse because the investigation is continuing and clearing of wreckage has not been completed at the scene however 250 News has learned that a semi-trailer unit hit a moose which was then propelled into an oncoming pick-up truck.  One person in the pick-up was killed.

Traffic had been completely blocked at the site throughout the night and morning, with no detour available.  Highway 16 at that location is now open to single-lane, alternating traffic, according to DriveBC.

There currently is no information available on the number of people involved in the accident or their home towns.
