PG Cougars Hand Out Awards at End of Year Banquet

Prince George, B.C. – Less than 24 hours after clinching their very first B.C. Division championship, the Prince George Cougars held their annual awards banquet in front of a packed audience at the Civic Centre.

Mid-season acquisition – defenceman Brendan Guhle – took home the top prize as Most Valuable Player. Here’s the complete list of winners:

  • Rookie of the Year (Brett Connolly Award) – Ryan Schoettler
  • Scholastic Player of the Year (Dr. Jeff Zorn Award) – Ryan Schoettler
  • Most Three Star Performances (Chris Mason Award) – Ty Edmonds
  • Fan Favourite Award (Dorothy Johnson Memorial Award) – Jesse Gabrielle
  • Bursary Award (On behalf of the PG Cougars Fan Club) – Ty Edmonds
  • Offensive Player of the Year (Troy Bourke Award) – Jansen Harkins
  • Top Defensive Player of the Year (Eric Brewer Award) – Sam Ruopp
  • Players Choice Award (Michael Fogolin Memorial Award) – Ty Edmonds
  • MVP (Dan Hamhuis Award) – Brendan Guhle

The Cougars will spend the next five days preparing for their yet-to-be determined first round opponent (it will be either Tri-City or Portland).

Game one will take place Friday night at CN Centre.

Ty Edmonds won three awards – Chris Mason Award, the Bursary Award and the Players Choice Award

Congrats to all the staff and players, was a very enjoyable season. PGs love affair with a WHL team is coming back nicely. All the best in the playoffs. Can’t wait to see the banner hanging high in the rafters, Go Cougs!

What an incredible turnaround for the Cougars. Seems new management fits them like a glove. To think they had the population of Vanderhoof and the Fort in the stands the other night. Well Done!

The former ” owners” had 20 yrs of rebuilding… look what happens when the owners care…
