The Cats opened the scoring at 8:12 into the  first period with Aaron Boyd  given credit for  the goal,  which gave the Cougars the early lead .

The Cougars  would  make it  a 2-nothing lead when  Jesse Gabrielle  scored  three minutes later,  but  the Winterhawks came back,  and wasted no time in coming back.

Evan Weinger,  scored on  a pass from Ryan Hughes,  to make it  2-1,   and Skyler McKenzie would tie it up on the power play just a minute and 32 seconds later.

In the second period,  a delay of game  penalty  to the Cougars,  gave  Portland the man advantage,  and they would  take make good on  that break  and would score,  taking the lead in the game 3 – 2.

The lead lasted about  seven minutes,  when  at the 15:46 mark, the Cougars  would tie it up ,  when Nikita Papugaev  scored on the power play.  Moments later,  Radovan Bondra would  put the puck in the net  to give the Cougars  a 4-3  lead.

The third period would see  the Winterhawks  Matt Revel score  at  8:54 to tie it up at 4.  Then Revel would do it again, giving Portland a 5-4 lead  when he scored with just 4 minutes left.

Dan O’Conner will provide a complete post game  review  first thing in the morning.
