Prince George, B.C. – Another candidate has joined the fray in Prince George-Mackenzie and she’s no stranger to politics.

Hilary Crowley has run four times (unsuccessfully) in the past for the Green Party of Canada and this week announced she plans to take her second stab at provincial politics.

So, why run again?

“Basically, I couldn’t bare the thought that we wouldn’t have a Green candidate in this riding. There’s a lot of people that want the opportunity to vote Green,” she says. “We had a few other people thinking about it at the last minute and they decided against it so I put my name forward.

Crowley sees forestry and sustainability of resources as two of the biggest issues in the riding.

“Making sure that jobs are maintained or renewed locally rather than shipping raw exports overseas thereby losing a lot of opportunities for local jobs,” she says.

“Also, mining and oil and gas. All the resource industries. We would like to make sure that we maintain local control and build up local resources in the rural communities.”

She notes one thing she isn’t concerned about it splitting the progressive vote and re-electing Liberal Mike Morris.

“I don’t believe so at all. I think there’s just as many right-wing voters as left-wing voters that would vote Green. We’re fiscally conservative in many ways and I don’t believe we’d split the vote at all,” says Crowley.

“There’s a lot of people that want to vote Green, they want that opportunity and now they’ve got it and I think we’ll take as many votes away from the Liberals as we would from the NDP.”

General Voting Day is set for May 9.
