Prince George, B.C. – The Cariboo Cougars have announced that Tyler Brough is the new Head Coach of the team heading into the 2017/18 BC Major Midget League Season.

Brough, the former Prince George Cougars standout who served the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the Cariboo Cougars, takes over from two-time BCMML coach of the year Trevor Sprague, who led his team to the league championship title this past season.  Sprague continues as the club’s General Manager, assisted by Bryan MacLean.

Brough says “we’ve been blessed with some size and skating the last few years with guys we had from the north.  I think next year’s team is going to be different, fast, more skilled, but we’re going to be smaller.”

He says there will be some player turnover and adds that there will be a concentrated effort to rid the team of its achilles heel of this season, and one that crippled the team’s efforts in the Telus Cup: penalties.  “The style of team we had, just because we were so big and physical, we had certain games where it was great for us, and on the opposite side of that it hurt us and in a few games in the Telus Cup you saw that, it cost us wins.”

“Discipline is a big thing in hockey nowadays and it’s something we’re going to have to key on, make sure that we don’t take lazy, stupid careless penalties.  We’ll take the hockey penalties and kill those off.”  He says he’s looking forward to working with a skilled team.

The Vice-president of Business with the Prince George Cougars, Andy Beesley, was on hand for the announcement.  He says “it’s super exciting to see one of our alumni, Tyler Brough, progressing through the ranks from player with the Cougars, helping out with the Cariboo Cougars and now being a head coach.  Between the Cariboo Cougars, the Spruce Kings and the Prince George Cougars we are absolutely committed to making Prince George one of the top spots for hockey in the province, if not the entire country.”

The Cariboo Cougars staff for 2017/18 is as follows:

General Manager: Trevor Sprague

Assistant General Manager: Bryan MacLean

Head Coach: Tyler Brough

Assistant Coach: Justin Fillion

Assistant Coach: RJ Berra

Trainer: Pam Solmonson

Comments

Well this is super poor reporting, One has to search on their own to find that Trevor is now the GM had I just foll
owed this article as it stood I would have surmised that Trevor was fired and replacements were made, once sgain poor reporting

Editor’s Note: There is nothing in the article intimating that anyone was fired. It indicates that Mr. Brough has been elevated from Assistant coach to Head Coach, and that Mr. Sprague is still the GM.

The Citizen reporting was way more concise

The second paragraph above is pretty concise

Too Bad Trevor Sprague was not Fired.
Really too bad he was made GM.
He may be IN Hockey but he is not a good Fit for Hockey.
