Travellers Offered One Last Chance to Vote Early

Monday, May 8, 2017 @ 10:27 AM

Prince Georg e, B.C. – Elections BC is offering one last chance to vote prior to General Voting Day tomorrow.

A mobile poll has been set up at the Prince George Airport from 8:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. tonight.

“It’s to accommodate any travellers that wish to vote on their way in or out of Prince George. It’s a convenience,” says Linda Smerychynski, district electoral officer in the Prince George-Valemount riding.

“It allows everyone the chance to vote as a lot of people are leaving or coming back to the community and may have other things on their mind.”

She says voters don’t have to live in Prince George-Valemount to cast a ballot but notes they must produce two pieces of identification – a driver’s license and some other sort of identification – including their airline ticket.

Smerychynski says it’s the first time the service has been offered at YXS.

“My understanding is it is happening at other airports – I can’t specify which ones though – it was a pilot project during the last election and now it’s been adopted here.”

She says another advance poll will be offered to inmates and staff at Prince George Regional Correctional Centre today.
