Smithers to Close Evacuation Centre

Wednesday, August 2, 2017 @ 8:14 AM

Smithers, B.C. – The Emergency Social Services Reception Centre in Smithers will close today at 2 p.m.

Located at Ranger Park, it opened last week to provide assistance to wildfire evacuees from the Cariboo.

With the evacuation order being lifted for Williams Lake the Town of Smithers says the volume of evacuees requiring assistance has decreased dramatically.

During the brief time it was open, the ESS Reception Centre assisted over 30 evacuees by providing them with referrals for groceries and lodging.

After today, those individuals still under evacuation order and those with health issues and requiring help are asked to visit the Town of Smithers Office at 1027 Aldous Street, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
