Encouraging News on Philpott Road Area Fire
Prince George, B.C. – Evacuation orders issued in the wake of the start of the Philpott Road area fire, have all been rescinded, although some properties in the area remain on evacuation alert.
The fire is 50% contained, and has burned 465 hectares.
The other major fire in the Kamloops Fire Centre is the Elephant Hill fire. It remains 50% contained, but a shift in wind has pushed smoke into Kamloops. As a result of the heavy smoke, air craft are not able to assist fire fighters on the ground.
The Finlay Creek fire, burning near Peachland, is said to be 1,500 hectares in size. 306 properties are on evacuation alert.
As for the Cariboo Fire Centre, the Plateau fire continues to rage north of Highway 20. It is estimated to be 517,140 hectares in size.
The Hanceville Riske Creek fire is 50% contained, and is estimated to be just under 240 thousand hectares.
In the SouthEast Fire Centre, the Lamb Creek fire grew 2 kms to the south on the west side of Moyie Lake last night. Evacuation orders remain in effect.
