Prince George, B.C. – An application has been filed with the City of Prince George, to move the Chances Gaming Centre to the Treasure Cove Casino site.

The Chances Gaming centre was built downtown at a cost of $15 million dollars and includes an underground parking lot which was constructed with $1. 5 to $2 million dollar contribution from the  "Chances" gaming  facility, and a contribution from the City of about $3 million.

With 610 electronic bingo stations and 79 slot machines (it is licensed for 100) the Chances Gaming Centre was expected to be a positive entertainment addition to the downtown core.

The Gaming Centre only opened on March 26th, and rumours have been flying around the City that the site is now being suggested as suitable for a performing arts centre. Performing Arts Centre Society President,  Sharon Cochran,  says she is not in a position to comment "We have a committee that is looking into a number of sites hoping to narrow that down to two or three.  We expect the business plan from the  consultants to be available in late August, giving us a footprint for all the sites."

Chances owner,  John Major, has not been available for  comment.

You've got to be kidding!
Also it just goes to show how safe downtown really is...the gamblers aren't even showing up.
lol
Why do I have a sneaking suspicion that this could have been the plan from day 1? Easier to pus for the performing arts center when there's a building already set up than to try to convince taxpayers of the need to build it methinks. Of course I may just be a lil' too cynical these days.
April Fool??
April who? Of course! If you build it they will come.
metalman.
This town is turning into a very long joke.

Like the great Meatloaf once sang - YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUTTA MY MOUTH.

I totally agree with Dazed on this one. Clear the house.
Moving?

So taking the building in pieces and moving it to the highway ..... now that will be a photo op. Probably just as cheap to build new.
Mr Major, in my opinion ,you can take your money grabbing, life ruining gambling establishments and move right out of town for all I care.
Holy cow, this is unbelievable. I think it best though if we don't have a gaming ctr downtown, performing arts would be much better. Downtown needs some things to help it out, it is really a sad downtown...
ROTFLMAO. I'm not even sure how to respond to this story. My first response was "Are you kidding me?". Then I realized that yes it is still PG we are talking about, so no it isn't a joke . . . LOL.

As an aside, please tell me our city officials aren't so stupid that they believe a facility designed for bingo and slots, would also be a suitable venue for a Performing Arts Centre . . .

If the intention was for this move all along I'm sure most of the details were already taken care of in the planning stages. A few hundred thousand for reno's is peanuts compared to building new. If this true then what a joke our leadership and city planners really are. The worst part is that I was stupid enough to fall for it by electing them!!!
I can't hold back the laughter!
I am sure that the ballet dancers will love to bump into a few columns on stage .... it will become a unique PG experience. .... LOL

Also, I am already hearing that the seats which have a column between them and the stage will go at a bargain 30% off .......

And then there is the special effect of the exterior walls ..... given their thin structure, I have been told that they resonate at a frequency of about 50Hz to 70Hz ..... so when the kettle drummers are perfroming, one will be able to stand on 7th Avenue and feel their hair blowing straight back .....

;-)
To be able to support the the props and curtains a fly system has to be installed and that would involve having to change the roof structure ( kind of like how the present playhouse is ).

If this is truly the reason behind this move, and then the associated cost of renovations the Performance Center will officially lost my support of the project.

So does this mean bingo players now have to head to the casino ?
The existing building could not possibly be used for a PAC. Only the site. (it is a good site). I can not imagine this idea coming from the group behind the PAC.
And what about the promised condos? Another bait and switch?
"If this is truly the reason behind this move, and then the associated cost of renovations the Performance Center will officially lost my support of the project"

Agreed. I simply couldn't support that type of debacle. I'm just waiting to hear the explanation realted to this gong show of a situation.
"..Mr Major, in my opinion ,you can take your money grabbing, life ruining gambling establishments and move right out of town for all I care..."

Hardly a fair comment. John runs it the way BC LootoBC says to run it. Looto wants to deal with the least people possible and John was the lucky number.

I think John treats PG pretty good. Although the Casino is not on my list of places to visit, lots of people like to gamble and John does kick back to the local events people put on. If John feels like helping out the Arts Groupies with his building then they should take John up on the idea. It would save us taxpayers a bundle for whatever John comes up with.

For me PG has too much to offer outdoors to bother going to arts places or gamble, but when I get sick and old those places might come in handy to burn up the remaining years before being confined to a bed pan.
"If John feels like helping out the Arts Groupies with his building then they should take John up on the idea"

LOL, are you serious? That would probably be like trying to hold the Simon Fraser Open at Fort George Park.
I've never met John Major so I can't comment on him as a person, but I figure his business is akin to that guy we sent to Williams Lake... and now they don't want him either. I really as hard as I think just can't make a distinction between the two lol.

Seriously though anyone that is in the entertainment business in PG should be outraged at the $60 Million in entertainment dollars that are sucked away from their businesses each year so that John can play king maker and gift the city a sub standard Performing Arts Center. One really has to wonder how you revitalize downtown when every one is giving their entertainment dollars to John Major and the tax collector? It seems really strange to me....
Eagleone says "... when every one is giving their entertainment dollars to John Major and the tax collector? It seems really strange to me...."

Well, we could force people to give money to the entertainment venue of Eagleone's choice. Obviously giving people freedom to blow their money on whatever they want is not working out for Eagleone.

Wait a minute .. Isn't the Performing Arts Group demanding my tax dollars right now? ...Money I would normal spend on entertainment?
The performing arts center can ply their trade in anyone of the back alley's downtown until we get our real priorities payed for in this town.
