Prince George, B.C.- The Prince George exhibition  gets underway  today, it is the 96th edition of the Ex, which has come a long way since it’s humble beginnings in 1912.

According to local historian, Ted Williams, the Exhibition began when a few men got together and hoped the idea of a fall fair would bring together townspeople and farmers to exhibit, compete, have fun and pull the community together.
This year, the fair features a new midway, music from Abba and Fleetwood Mac tribute bands and  there will be a special dance on Saturday night.
Last year, the  PGX was awarded the prestigious title  of “Provincial Fair” as a result of taking top place in a very competitive agriculturally related challenge in 2007(tied with the Bulkley Valley fair in Smithers).
The PGX is an official BC150 celebratory event adding a whole new exciting dimension to the fair.
Today, the gates open at 8:00 a.m. and the gates stay open till 10 tonight.
Today is Pioneer Day, so all Seniors  get in for $2.00.

Let us all patronize the exhibition, to help ensure a future for this important event.
metalman.
I enjoy the Ex but do wish the Midways were larger. Purchasing the arm band, getting there first thing in the morning when it opens and staying all day / night means you can usually get on maybe 10 rides. Line ups way too long. I know that in my family we will probably spend close to $400 there this weekend.
I have been going every year since 2003 but will unfortunately miss this year. Presently in China till mid august. I unfortunately forgot about the PGX and would of planned the holiday around the PGX weekend. I only realized when reading Opinon250 that it is on this weekend. Good luck on the fair. Will make it next year for sure.
Why don't they have the shooting gallery at the PGX instead of downtown?
WOOHOOO PGX!!!

Good Luck and have a great show!!
When there are more rides, shorter line ups and better prices, I'll be sure to take my children back again. Spent $150 in admission and arm bands alone and kids spent most of their time waiting in line, not to mention the rides that are shut down due to mechanical problems. If you want to go and walk around and see the exhibits, etc. it's great. Seriously though - young kids want to ride, and ride, and ride... and it is simply a rip off for them.
Hillbilly-fest.
Small town fair at PNE prices. $2 for a bottle of water, $10 admission. Nothing there anymore. Only 2 Kin Centres in use with hardly any exihibits, small midway. The only thing that made it a good experience was the weather. A total waste of time and money as far as I'm cocerned.
I have been attending the PGX for 35 years. The last 2-3 years it seems to have lost some pizz-azz. I miss the logger sports and the rodeo. Not sure I'll bother next year. Sad.
