Prince George, B.C. - The Ministry of Environment is issuing an Air Quality Advisory for Prince George due to high levels of fine particulate matter.
Based on the air quality data in the downtown and College Heights areas, the high levels of both PM10 and finer particles (PM2.5) are due to a mix of dust (coarser particles), and combustion emissions (smoke).
A high pressure ridge has brought warm, dry conditions with calm winds resulting in pollutants being trapped in the air shed.
This Air Quality Advisory is expected to be in effect until further notice, with an update to be provided this afternoon at 4:00pm.
Residents are reminded that the City’s Clean Air Bylaw prohibits the use of wood-burning appliances, except for Sole Wood Burning Heat Users, and that open burning, including backyard burning and land clearing burning is banned during Air Quality Advisories.
All residents and especially those who suffer from cardiac and respiratory diseases should be aware that these particulate levels could cause adverse health effects.
