Prince George, B.C. - Prince George Fire Centre is reporting more fire starts than expected as lightning yesterday afternoon and evening caused 22 new fires.

The lightning started one fire of note and the remaining fires are less than one hectare in size.   It occurred on Swanson Road north of Cluculz Lake. It has reached a size of 2.4 hectares and was contained by heavy equipment that built a guard completely around the fire.

There are currently 20 fire fighters suppressing the fire and helicopters and air tankers were used yesterday to drop water and fire retardant on the fire. Four homes are within 200 meters of the fire but are not threatened.

The fire danger rating is currently high to extreme across the Prince George Fire Centre. Due to continued risk of lightning the BC Forest Service reminds the public to use extreme caution when lighting any fires. Human caused fires divert critical resources from naturally occurring fires caused by lightning.

All those dead trees in there...going to go up like matchsticks some day..
Yup, just need the right conditions.
Umm, like dry timber and lighting. Nice comment lost faith.
The dead pine won't make a good fire. The dry sticks are too far apart and not enough fuel left in the limbs to crown or jump.

Once the pine falls down it might make a ground fire, but those fires run pretty slow.
Goldrush are you a forestry tech?
I figured not, only a burgwer flipper would post what you did.
If you don't know what you are talking about, why talk.
Sounds like Yamadoo is a forestry technician as well, or at least, a forestry firefighter!
All that dead pine out there with the needles on the ground creates perfect conditions for raging ground fires.
