Prince George, B.C. - City Council will be asked to give first and second readings to the zoning change that would allow the Chances Bingo hall to move to the Treasure Cove Casino site.
This is the first step towards clearing the way for a public hearing on the matter. If Council grants first and second readings tonight, the public hearing would take place on August 25th. The change would not see any increase in the number of slots in the city as the limit on slots will stay at 575 and the 100 allowed with the Bingo hall will not be moved over. The application also requests 10 fewer bingo seats.
Also on the agenda for this evening’s council meeting is the pawn shop bylaw. The revised bylaw changes the amount of time for the pawn shop or second hand dealer to hold on to items before allowing the resale it also revises some of the items that would be included in record keeping. The bylaw would require more detailed records be kept on pawned or second hand items and the people who provided them to the store. The approval of the first two readings tonight would set the stage for a public hearing on the 25th.
Council will get another update on the flood mitigation and flood risk analysis study. Council will be advised that staff have applied for grants under the Emergency Management BC Flood Protection program for:
- Extra dollars for the flood risk evaluation and Flood Control Solutions Project
- Multi year gravel removal program at the confluence of the Nechako and Fraser Rivers with the first year of funding to proceed with the 2 dimensional river hydraulic analysis sediment transport analysis environmental impact anises and regulatory agency permit applications
- Multi year project to construct a dyke between River Road and the Nechako River to the 200 year flood construction level , the first year funding to proceed with engineering design and floodway restoration which includes asset removal and property acquisition where property owners are in concurrence.)
