Mines Minister Richard Neufeld has confirmed to Opinion 250 News the Site C dam project for the Peace River has not only been dusted off, it is now on the front burner with talks underway towards having it become a reality.
"We still have a lot of hoops to go through, but we are on track to get the site C dam underway ".
Neufeld says "We are talking with the people in Alberta, the Cree along the Athabasca and have some other major hurdles, but we are, never the less working on a plan and hope to come to government when we have these other problems worked out. "
The original plans to build the Site C dam were scrapped back in 1980 , when residents complained the dam, which is to be built in the vicinity of Taylor, is in an area of unstable ground made up of clay and mud and roads already have difficulty in being built in the area .
The project was seriously revisited after the Duke Point Vancouver Island facility was not approved.
Neufeld says, this project is definitely on the front burner "Its just a matter of time before we seek approval from government for the go ahead for the project."
