Prince George, B.C.- RCMP in Prince George will be very active this weekend to ensure  speeders and aggressive drivers don't cause any problems.

Through the north, motorists can expect to see an increased presence by the police on the area highways.

All fifteen (15) traffic services units in the north are reporting extra patrols and an increase in the number of police cars performing traffic enforcement duties to promote safe driving practices. RCMP say they want the motoring public to see more police vehicles during their travels in the hopes they will think twice about the way they drive this weekend. RCMP say they hope the increased risk of apprehension for those drivers choosing to drive aggressively, will  be a deterrent. Above all, the police are hoping their efforts may keep them from having to knock on someone's door or attend an emergency ward with unfortunate news of injury or death.

In the Prince George area, there will be multiple police units working enforcement in on all four major routes extending from the city. Patrols within the municipality will concentrate on Impaired Driving, Seat Belts and Intersections. All three (3) traffic services unit will be working in concert, to promote and enforce safe driving practices.

Anyone travelling this weekend is asked to plan their travel, accounting for delays associated to weather, collision incidents, and any other possible interruption. North District Sergeant Pat McTiernan says aggressive driving, resulting from haste and impatience often ends in tragedy. "The extra few moments it takes to arrive at your destination is worth the life of a loved one."  He says there are some simple tips to  help you get be "in shape" to get behind the wheel "Getting the proper rest prior to your trip and ensuring you eat responsibly will assist with fatigue during a long travel day. Normally, about 45 minutes after eating a meal, the feeling for a siesta will affect our ability to concentrate. Eating light and planning regular breaks in your trip will help eliminate that effect."

A holiday for organized crime! What a plus! A chance to collect some much needed revenue (taxpayers money) rather than fill out forms, raid a crack house, arrest the losers, let them go and finish the paper work about a week later. No risk money too from these non dangerous docile speeders!
I have seen several times the RCMP setting up checkpoints and stopping cars near Costco and other Highway enterences checking seat belts. I haven't seen RCMP doing anything like that in Vancouver. Why they do it in PG?

I like to see them refocusing their resources and checking the activities of prostitutes and drug dealers in down
town core belt.
If they want to hand out tickets they should go to the new cop shop on 5th.
If they get there between 4 and 5 pm they will see vehicles pulling out and turning down 5th across a double line.
I used to live where they used to set up radar on a regular basis. Funny thing was I witnessed off duty cops being waved in and then let go without a ticket. Funny how that works. I guess it’s easy to target taxpayers than the real crooks.
This is just traffic section. Do you think other sections such as serious crime, Drug section, General duty etc, are taking the day off? Sheesh!
Nowicki:"...checking seat belts. I haven't seen RCMP doing anything like that in Vancouver. Why they do it in PG?"

Apparently PG has one of the lowest seatbelt compliance statistic in the whole province.

On the subject of speeding: On the Hart I often see cars, pickup trucks, vans and SUVs pulled over and ticketed...I think the last time I saw a speeding commercial vehicle pulled over (logging trucks and such) was several years ago. And, I have never seen a motorcycle being ticketed - perhaps because motorcycles never speed.
There are alot of cop haters that hate cops for the sake of hating cops on this site. Follow the rules of the road and this wont be a big deal for you. Drinking and Driving/Speeding is a BIG problem in PG and I for one am happy that the police are out there to make sure people arent being idiots on the road. If you are speeding/drinking and driving, you deserve to get caught. The law is black and white. Break it, pay the price. Why is this so friggin difficult for so many people to understand?
Couldn't agree with you more, Matt! I hate tailgating and I wish the police would get them off my back by getting them off the road.

I like the cops as long as they are doing their job efficiently and with an even handed approach.

The Hart Highway traffic needs to be monitored more closely - it's a risky stretch of road for anyone who actually obeys the traffic laws.
Random patrols looking for evidence of violations.....YES!

Check points pulling everyone over, fishing for violations......NO!

We already know what happens when you allow fascism to creep into a society and do nothing to stop it. At least those that read history books do. I'd suggest those who have not read any do so.
Hahaha thanks for that belittling comment. You had better go look up "fascism" in the dictionary. Maybe thats a book you should read a little more often so you know what those big words in your history books mean. Fascism, hahaha what a laugh.
Hey Nowicki..the reason you wont see the rcmp in vancover is because VPD is there! All the other areas that have rcmp have their traffic sections and believe me they are usually out and about.
Yes Diplomat that's a start with talking about Hart Highway traffic. Actually that subject needs its own forum. One of the most dangerous areas is the lights by the Mohawk. The drivers coming off the highway from town heading towards Aberdeen/Pulpmill Road don't seem to think they have to yield to traffic turning or going through the lights. (I've got fingered so many times while turning left through the lights by people who think they had the right of way coming off the highway heading towards the pulpmill....lol..oh well.) So you have people upset and therefore not paying attention to the crosswalk that is 10 steps away. Disaster waiting to happen. A good spot for the RCMP to sit would be offroad inbetween the Mohawk and Aberdeen.

Go get those hot tempered, nonyielding, speeding fingerers!!

Indeed there is The Vancouver RCMP
Matt......why don't you try to refute with a logical, well thought out argument instead of an attempt to be condescending? Your country is headed toward a more despotic nature with each passing day and instead of the bogeyman being the Jews this time around it is the evils of certain drugs that the state does not approve of. The larger populace, being very easy to manipulate and inspire fear in, is falling right in line..."Please! please! save us from the evils of Pot! Yes, yes! you can search my car any time you like... my house... even my body (urine testing), just keep that evil weed from destroying my life!!" Every rung you allow the State to climb is another rung closer to your complete collapse of liberty. Open your eyes, in Vancouver the STATE is entering people's homes without a warrant, prior knowledge or even when the owner is home, all because the homeowner has a high electric bill. If you don't think this is a fascist mentality then you really missed your time and place in history: Germany, the 1930's. Government does not exists to inspire fear in the populace... it is the populace that should inspire fear in government.
You do have a good point Kevin.
Excellent points, even though we've strayed from the topic a bit. We've given up a lot of freedom in the country all in the name of 'safety'.

'Don't worry, we're just trying to protect you!' Why not put a camera up on every street corner? That would make us really safe then, right? Nothing to worry about as long as you're not doing anything wrong! If you like that idea, read 1984 by George Orwell and see how many of his ideas have made it into mainstream society that people were just horrified about at the time it was published.

I'm a big supporter of the police, I'd rather they spent their time busting crack shacks and organized crime rather than sitting at the bottom of a hill and catching people doing 10 km over the speed limit, but that's just me.

Ok, rant over.
Speeding makes money. Busting crack shacks cost money. Try the logic.
