Gas Price Leaps!

Prince George, B.C.- The experts predicted the price at the pump would jump today, but this increase is more of a catapult!

Earlier today the price of a litre of regular gas was 136.9. This afternoon it took a leap to 147.9!!!

For those who can remember, that’s an increase of about 50 cents a gallon!

You can blame it all on Ike, the hurricane that is starting to  send waves crashing on to the  Gulf Coast. The major oil and gas companies have shut down their refineries to prepare for the worst of Ike.

Interesting note, the price of gas in communities along the U.S. Gulf Coast jumped today, to the Canadian equivalent of $1.28 a litre.

If you act fast,  there are still some  gas stations on the Hart that are offering the 136.9 gas, but  that price is short lived.

Yaawwwwwwnnnnn..... time for the same boring comments all over again.
Thats because were special up here.heehaw
Criminal behaviour
They tell us this increase is because 25% of American refining is based in Texas which is in the path of hurricane ike. So I'm wonder if Husky/Mohawk will keep their prices down because refining is done right here?
I still don't get how a hurricane in the south esat USA affect us here when we have our own refinery right here??? and the oil well is 250 miles north....and fuel is shipped from here to Vancouver area and they can sell it for less there than we get it for here....
They can truck fuel in from Alberta for Petro CAnada and even with that extra cost still sell it for the same as everyone else...boy it must be cheap in Alberta
interesting......
Does anyone remember when a price increase wasn't first seen at the 5th and Carney Petro Can? Why do people continue to gas up there?
What is the Combines Act doing about this conspiracy. Wasn't Rockafellar's Standard Oil busted up because of this.

There should be a full investigation, in this price gouging.
Let's face it...when a tropical storm off the Texas coast affects the price of gas in Prince George on the same day it hits, something is very, very, wrong.
If we cannot see that there is something wrong in the way Canada markets it's oil, then we really ARE as stupid as the oil companies and our "elected" leaders seem to think we are.
Sure,we are told about all the refineries they just had to shut down out in the gulf, but do we really think that should affect the price TODAY in Prince George?
Do we not have CANADIAN OIL here in CANADA?
Something is very, very wrong with this picture, and all the political rhetoric in the world won't change that!
We ARE getting scammed, and our government is backing up the oil companies who they have allowed to run wild at our expense.
The bastards are sleeping together and our government is loving the revenue it generates for federal and provincial coffers at our expense!
Somebody get a rope.
Wooo glad I filled up today. Guess I'll start using my u pass now and taking the bus to school.
I'm not buying anymore of these BS excuses for thr rising price of gas. Did we not have huricanes and bad weather in past years but didn't cause huge price increases? These crooks in the oil companies and both federal & provincial governments need to be exposed for what they are. Let's see a chart that shows just how much tax the governments collect from a litre of gas. Of course we must include the carbon tax grab as well. How about some pictures and bios of these CEOs of the oil companys who don't give a s**t about anything but their bottom line. Free enterprise my ass, there's nothing free about this enterprise. Time for some changes, big time. Too bad we aren't a banana republic; we could all be out rioting for change. Maybe that's what it will take to get some changes made. This increase is just too far over the line. Time for some of our governments to get some gonads and put the brakes on this gas price gouging. With this latest big jump in gas prices many people will be having to make some life changing choices as to what their prioities are in regards to the money they have to spend. Some businesses I have dealt with in the past won't be getting any more from me. Won't be able to afford it. Have a nice day and sleep well
Yes a Rope is a good Idea, even a Towrope will do.
Went to see if I could find some gas at 134.9 since I was told downtown was up to 147.9. Well I am in Quesnel and in the area south of downtown where we have 4 gas stations. 2 were up and 2 were not. I had to wait in a line up for 10 minutes! It was like everyone had been evacuated and HAD to fill up. Shell and 7/11 were both up already. Mohawk and Extra foods were still down, but this was at 5:00 and maybe they are up now.
Finally the cost of diesel is cheaper than gas.
Well said Andy Freeze!
Andyfreeze:"Do we not have CANADIAN OIL here in CANADA?" We do have oil in Canada but unfortunately it seems that it is being extracted, shipped out and controlled mostly by foreign owned companies.

The last remaining Canadian government participation in Petrocan was sold off to foreign interests a few years ago.
Since that idiot Harper sold Petrocan the gov't lost the chance to have some control over the price of gas.I guess Harper's next move will be to reduce taxes the oil companies pay.
Well, We should, be thinking, of having, fuel prices, go up when, we get winter storms, up here,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,wouldn't that be funy, to Texas, in middle of winter
Thanks Andyfreeze, I agree, hang them high!! In the days of the wild west, you got the rope for stealing a horse!! Now you get nothing for stealing everything!!

I keep saying it, vigilante justice is coming to town, or should I say, it is already here! Organized crime is becoming our society, and our justice system!

I will say, there kind of justice has taken care of a few of the folks that I don't want in our society anyway!!

The whole situation is out of control. But I will tell you, nobody is going to mess with me!! NOBODY, get it!!

I'm in a job that puts me in great danger all the time!! I will tell you however, I will be judged by twelve, before I am carried by six!! If you know what I mean!!

And I forgot to ask you good folks!! Is anybody into shutting this Province down for a few days, to make these dirt bag politicians stand up and pay attention!!

I'm up for it, I was involved when we did it in the early 80's!! It is called SOLIDARITY, and don't tell me it won't work!!

gitterdundamnit!!!
I agree taxinapothole, but somehow I seriously doubt we could get people to stand together long enough for a general strike.
Pity.
Solidarity is an effective tool when it comes to making those we elect actually LISTEN, but it would seem far too many people are marching to the sound of their own drum and just not paying attention!
Maybe they just don't care, as long as nothing rocks their little worlds.
That WILL change when they suddenly wake up to the fact that costs of almost everything are soaring out of control and wages have not even begun to keep pace!
Wages ARE a forgotten issue in the big picture!
We are losing ground and falling behind like never before!
It is unfortunate that we can't get something going to push back, because what better time to send the message than right before a federal election?
That just might gather some attenion federally AND provincially, but then as usual,a bit of rhetoric and a handout or two from the those at the political trough and once again canadians would lay back down in submission.
What mess!

Go to http://www.austingasprices.com/ and see how much gas is in Texas, don't tell me that were not getting gouged here in Canada.
I drove across 5 states in the U.S. this summer and compared to what we were paying here in Canada, the gas prices were a gift!
The average we paid was about $1.18 a litre and in some places, much less.
The canadian dollar was about 4 cents below the U.S. dollar as I recall.
There was a bit of sticker shock when we got back into Canada!
Something IS very,very,wrong!
THIEVES
When people are too comfortable (i.e. lazy) to get together and use a Legal Tool (brought into law by the NDP) called *Recall* they say things like: "Is anybody into shutting this Province down for a few days, to make these dirt bag politicians stand up and pay attention!"
I see in the states they are all up in arms because their gasoline prices jumped 7 cents........................ A GALLON.

Imagine if their price went up almost 50 cents a gallon like it did here.
Thinking it may start another American civil war.
I can't imagine any oil execs shaking in their boots listening to our empty rhetoric. Boycott one service station at a time and put them out of business. So some poor entrepreneurial sap is gonna have to sacrifice his business to make a point to his head office. But then again, if you get five people together to do sumthing, they all probably couldn't agree on what to have for lunch. So much fer solidarity. Leave it in the tank at the gas station, which means it stays at the refinery. (they ain't gonna keep producing if they ain't got no more tanks to put it in). Then they can leave it in the pipeline or in the tanker and then the ground thereby backing the whole system up. Just like yer toilet does. That oughta learn 'em!
