Prince George, B.C. - The owner of the burned out Columbus Hotel has asked Prince George City Council to reconsider it's ordered remidial action to demolish the building on Third Avenue.
Under the Commuinity Charter, the owner had two days from the order being delivered to make such a request. The owner has done so, and there will be a special meeting for City Council on Monday the 15th to hear from the owner.
The Council order, issued during the Monday September 8th Council meeting gave the Columbus owner 7 days to have the structure demolished and removed as it is considered a safety hazard. The order was to have taken effect on the 10th meaning the building would have had to have been removed by the 17th.
Only three walls of the hotel remain standing and an engineers report says the front wall is in danger of collapsing if a good wind hits it.
