Prince George, B.C.- Correctional officers and sheriffs in B.C. are getting a pay hike.

The BCGEU has come to an agreement with the province that will see most correctional officers and sheriffs receiving a pay hike of about 9.9%.

It means a correctional officer will make $29.58 an hour and deputy sheriffs will make $28.71 an hour.

Entry level rates will increase by one grid making it easier to recruit staff.

BCGEU has been pressing for this raise for over two years.

Bulls suck I would never befriend a rat like that
Had a little trouble with law did ya chris...
I suppose it was all their fault too....

but what do I know...
Those new wages on par with the city's garbage handlers? Should be. Comparable job.
Well they are working with those not that high on the social scale.
No sure I would want to put up with what the guards put up with. No matter how much the pay.
Those men and woman are worth a minimum of that! They should be on par with Police, Fire, and all other emergency service!
The cab drivers put up with the same trash. It is too bad that the government has to take so long to approve an increase for us!! Right now, the cabbies in Prince George, are down about 21 cents a klm from all the other major cities. Gas has gone through the ceiling, and we may be lucky to see some sort of an increase in about 6 months.

Good for the Guards and Sheriffs, you deserve the pay increase. I know who you deal with, we get to pick up the garbage when it is released, and drop them off at greyhound!! And of course, our tax dollars foot the bill for their cab ride!!
